Corneal cross‐linking as a treatment for corneal dystrophy with secondary bacterial infection in a Friesian horse

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2020
Corneal cross‐linking should be considered as treatment option in Friesian horses with infectious keratitis and corneal dystrophy. Optical coherence tomography, giving information of corneal structure, can help for diagnosis and monitoring.

Detailed corneal and genetic characteristics of a pediatric patient with macular corneal dystrophy - case report

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2021
Background Corneal dystrophies are a group of rare, inherited disorders that are usually bilateral, symmetric, slowly progressive, and not related to environmental or systemic factors. The majority of publications present the advanced form of the disease

Severe Corneal Morphological Alterations after Excimer Laser Surface Ablation for a High Astigmatism

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2021
We report long-term alterations of anterior corneal stroma after excimer laser surface ablation for a high astigmatism. The patient claimed progressive visual loss in his right eye (RE) during the last 3 years after bilateral laser-assisted subepithelial

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Investigation of How Corneal Densitometry Artefacts Affect the Imaging of Normal and Keratoconic Corneas

open access: yesBioengineering
Purpose: To investigate corneal densitometry artefacts found in Pentacam Scheimpflug scans and their potential effect on assessing keratoconic (KC) corneas compared to normal (N) corneas.

Added Prognostic Value of EEG Reactivity in Comatose Patients Following Cardiac Arrest

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the added prognostic value of EEG reactivity for favorable outcome compared with background analysis during and after targeted temperature management (TTM). Methods Prospective observational cohort study of comatose post–cardiac arrest patients admitted to a single academic center between 2017 and 2022, all undergoing ...

Keratoconus and Corneal Ectasia with Relatively Low Keratometry

open access: yesOphthalmology and Therapy
Introduction The study aims to demonstrate and estimate the prevalence of clinical corneal ectasia and keratoconus (KC) in patients with relatively low keratometry (low-K KC). Methods In a retrospective, analytical, and non-interventionist study, one eye
