Corona Discharge Treatment of Polyolefins *
The Journal of Adhesion, 1994The effects of corona discharge treatment on polyethylene and polypropylene homopolymers have been studied. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to determine surface compositions which were related to surface free energy estimates from contact angle measurements.

Corona-Discharge-Initiated Mine Explosions
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2004Strong circumstantial evidence suggests that lightning has initiated methane explosions in abandoned and sealed areas of underground coal mines. The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) investigated several of these occurrences within recent years. The investigated explosions occurred at significant depths, ranging from 700 ft to 1200 ft.

Spectral emission of corona discharges
Applied Optics, 1976Corona-discharge devices are commonly used in a variety of research and development applications. They are known to produce a considerable amount of electromagnetic radiation, mainly in the uv region of the spectrum. The mechanism involved is presumed to be the ionization and radiative recombination of the gases surrounding the high-voltage terminal of

Corona discharge of Titan's troposphere
Advances in Space Research, 1997The atmosphere of Titan is constantly bombarded by galactic cosmic rays and Saturnian magnetospheric electrons causing the formation of free electrons and primary ions, which are then stabilized by ion cluster formation and charging of aerosols. These charged particles accumulate in drops in cloud regions of the troposphere.

Flow-enhanced corona discharge: The corona torch
Journal of Applied Physics, 1988An experimental investigation has been conducted to enhance and control corona discharge in two small diameter cylindrical hollow electrodes by an external gas flow. The results show that the time-averaged corona current for fixed discharge voltages increases with increasing gas flowrate of pure nitrogen, and pressure drop is not significantly ...

We present a review of the results of theoretical studies and laboratory modeling of corona discharge initiation in clouds. The influence of corona discharges on the evolution of the cloud microstructure and electrification is analyzed. It is shown that corona discharges are initiated when large-size hydrometeors approach each other, whereas in some ...

Conference Record of the 1993 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Twenty-Eighth IAS Annual Meeting, 2002
Various aspects of corona discharge treatment are reviewed. Particular attention is given to the Lissajous power measurement procedure; the significance of quartz, ceramic, or rubber as the dielectric in corona treaters; watt density considerations; and stabilizers and fatty acids. >

Corona discharge in electrospraying
Journal of Electrostatics, 2014Abstract The paper presents investigations of current–voltage and light emission characteristics of electrospraying of various liquids in atmospheric air. The spectroscopic measurements have shown that the onset of corona discharge coincides with the onset of electrospraying, with the voltage increasing.

Abstract The negative corona discharge in steam has been studied experimentally over a range of pressures, above and below atmospheric. Provided the temperature of the steam is well above the saturation temperature the results are similar to those obtained with other gases.

The Corona Discharge Transducer
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1954Measurements have continued and will be reported on the dynamic pressure sensitivity of a point-to-plane corona discharge. It was found previously that the sensitivity of the device using a 6.3-mil diameter wire is proportional to the square of the ratio of current drawn by the discharge to potential across the discharge (conductance).
