Fatty liver disease is not associated with increased mortality in the elderly: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Graphical abstract summarizing the study design, main results and key findings Abstract Background and Aims Fatty liver disease (FLD) has been associated with excess mortality. Screening for hepatic steatosis (HS) in patients with metabolic dysfunction is therefore recommended by several guidelines, despite a paucity of evidence on the clinical ...

Leveraging corona virus disease 2019 vaccination to promote hepatitis C screening

open access: yesHepatology Communications, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Health care initiatives, such as hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening, have been greatly overshadowed by the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. However, COVID‐19 vaccination programs also provide an opportunity to engage with a high volume of people in a health care setting.

Factors associated with cardiovascular events after simultaneous liver–kidney transplant from the US Multicenter Simultaneous Liver–Kidney Transplant Consortium

open access: yesHepatology Communications, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Cardiovascular disease is a leading complication after both liver and kidney transplantation. Factors associated with and rates of cardiovascular events (CVEs) after simultaneous liver–kidney transplant (SLKT) are unknown. This was a retrospective cohort study of adult SLKT recipients between 2002 and 2017 at six centers in six United Network ...

Impact of Corona Virus

open access: yesJournal of Clinical & Experimental Immunology, 2021
Coronaviruses are a group of related RNA viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans and birds, they cause respiratory tract infections that can range from mild to lethal, mild illnesses in humans include some cases of the common cold (which is also caused by other viruses, predominantly rhinoviruses).

Disinfection of corona virus in histopathology laboratories [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, 2020
AbstractSevere acute respiratory syndrome (SARS CoV‐2/COVID‐19) is a highly contagious and deadly disease caused by a virus belonging to the coronaviridae family. Researchers working in histopathology laboratories, dealing with morbid samples, are particularly vulnerable to infection unless they have very strong immunity.

Interleukin-6 blockade and cytokine release syndrome in coronavirus disease of 2019: Is that a lot? Thoughts from the emergency department

open access: yesJournal of Emergency Practice and Trauma, 2021
Interleukin-6 is pro-inflammatory cytokine which plays a role in cytokine storm and brought into notice with corona virus disease of 2019. Lymphopenia and dysregulated immune response were seen in the critically ill patients of corona virus disease of ...

Drug targets for corona virus: A systematic review [PDF]

open access: yesIndian Journal of Pharmacology, 2020
The 2019-novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a major source of disaster in the 21th century. However, the lack of specific drugs to prevent/treat an attack is a major need at this current point of time. In this regard, we conducted a systematic review to identify major druggable targets in coronavirus (CoV).

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
