Endodontic and Surgical Management of External Cervical Root Resorption: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This study describes the treatment of tooth #9 exhibiting external cervical root resorption (ECR) and apical root resorption. A therapeutic approach—including root canal therapy with MTA apexification, surgical debridement of resorptive tissue at the ECR site, and sealing of the defect—was necessary to eliminate the infection.

Management of Peri‐Implant Soft Tissue Dehiscence Using Laterally Closed Tunneling With a Connective Tissue Graft: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Peri‐implant soft tissue dehiscence is an esthetic complication for which coronally advanced flap with connective tissue grafting remains a predictable treatment, whereas evidence for laterally closed tunneling (LCT) around implants is limited.

Management of Massive Post‐Tracheostomy Subcutaneous Emphysema With an Adjustable‐Length, Wire‐Reinforced Tracheostomy Tube: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Massive subcutaneous emphysema with pneumomediastinum is a rare but potentially life‐threatening complication following tracheostomy, for which standardized management strategies are lacking. We report the case of a 67‐year‐old man who developed progressive cervicofacial and thoracic subcutaneous emphysema on postoperative Day 9 after an ...

Management of Mandibular Third Molars With an Interradicular Inferior Alveolar Nerve Using Ultrasonic Surgery: A Case Series of Three Patients

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The interradicular course of the inferior alveolar nerve represents a significant challenge for oral surgeon. In this context, ultrasonic surgery may provide a precise and safe alternative for sectioning of impacted third molar roots, particularly in procedures involving mandibular molars with an interradicular course of the inferior alveolar ...

The Multidisciplinary Management of A Fusion Involving a Permanent Maxillary Central Incisor and a Partially Erupted Supernumerary Tooth: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT A 12‐year‐old female patient was initially referred to and examined in the oral surgery department at the School of Dentistry, Belfast following referral from her high street orthodontist. Reason for referral was extraction of two supernumeraries associated with the palatal aspect of the maxillary central incisors along with removal of two ...

Pumping Venom: Valvilli Architecture in Diacamma (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) and Implications for Stinger Functionality

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 9, September 2026.
The insect stinger is among the best‐known venom‐delivery structures, yet its valvilli—paired flaps within the valve chamber—remain poorly understood. Using micro‐CT, histology, serial block‐face SEM and CLSM in the ant Diacamma nr. indicum, we show that the valvilli are not uniformly flexible flaps but are materially differentiated structures with ...

Deep learning cone‐beam computed tomography image segmentation for the 3D visualization of mandibular infraosseous periodontal defects

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, Volume 97, Issue 9, Page 1847-1859, September 2026.
Abstract Background The accurate assessment of infraosseous periodontal defects is crucial for effective diagnosis and treatment planning. Cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT) enables detailed imaging of these defects; however, to leverage their full potential, CBCT images must be reconstructed in 3 dimensions (3D).

Use of cells and/or biologics combined with scaffolds for soft tissue regeneration around dental implants

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, Volume 97, Issue S1, Page S89-S102, September 2026.
Abstract Background The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate the efficacy of cell‐based therapies and biologically enhanced scaffolds for peri‐implant soft tissue regeneration, including the increase in soft tissue thickness (STT) and/or keratinized mucosa (KM) augmentation.

Emerging, personalized, and minimally invasive technologies for periodontal and peri‐implant soft and hard tissue regenerative therapy

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, Volume 97, Issue S1, Page S103-S139, September 2026.
Abstract Background Regenerative therapies have become central to periodontics and implant dentistry and are becoming more widely applied to reconstruct supporting bone and associated soft tissues. With increased recognition of the benefits of using biomimetic materials as scaffolds in contemporary regenerative technologies, the field is seeking to ...
