Current Opinion in Cardiology, 2005
Coronary revascularization has become the principal treatment modality in patients with severe coronary artery disease. The broader application of percutaneous coronary interventions in patients with multivessel disease and the recent introduction of drug-eluting stents have both lead to a decline in the number of patients referred for surgical ...

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in the Elderly
Chest, 2000The incidence of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in elderly patients has been increasing. We retrospectively analyzed the results of CABG performed at Shin-Tokyo Hospital between January 1, 1991, and December 31, 1998. Preoperative, perioperative, and follow-up data of patients > or = 75 years old (group E, n = 190) were collected, and compared ...

Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery in Nonagenarians
Angiology, 1999As the number of nonagenarians increases yearly in the United States, surgeons will be asked more often to evaluate the possibility of intervention for coronary artery disease in this age group. The purpose of this study is to document experience with patients 90 years of age or older in order to determine whether coronary artery bypass grafting ...

Abstract Surgical coronary revascularization is state-of-the-art therapy for cardiac ischemia. Even with scientific and procedural developments that narrow the gap between surgical and percutaneous revascularization strategies, surgical revascularization continues to demonstrate superior durability and greater long-term cost ...

Dipyridamole for coronary artery bypass surgery
Thrombosis Research, 1990A randomized trial to compare the effects of oral and intravenous dipyridamole was conducted in 58 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Preoperative oral administration of dipyridamole resulted in lower plasma drug concentrations in the early postoperative period than perioperative intravenous administration.

Redo coronary artery bypass grafting
General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2014Redo coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is more challenging than primary CABG in many aspects. Patients who undergo redo CABG are older, more comorbid, and with more sclerotic coronary and noncardiac arteries than seen in primary CABG. Operative procedures are more complicated, reentry of the sternum is sometimes problematic, and dissection of the ...

Robotic coronary artery bypass grafting
Journal of Robotic Surgery, 2010Robotically assisted surgery enables coronary surgery to be performed totally or partially endoscopically. Using the Da Vinci robotic technology allows minimally invasive treatments. We report on our experience with coronary artery surgery in our department: patients requiring single or double vessel surgical revascularization were eligible.

Ulnar Artery as a Coronary Bypass Graft
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1998The ulnar artery has been used as a coronary bypass graft in 8 patients when it was deemed unsafe to harvest the radial artery after evaluation of the arterial circulation in the forearm and hand. The ulnar artery was removed from the lower three quarters of the forearm, along with its satellite veins.

Pharmacology of coronary artery bypass grafts
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1999Spasm of arterial and venous graft conduits can occur both during harvesting and after the graft is connected. Attempts to overcome spasm during harvesting by probing or hydraulic distension can cause structural damage to the graft, which may impair short- and long-term patency.
