Clinical Outcomes After Catheter Ablation in Patients With Structural Heart Disease and Ventricular Fibrillation

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction In patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM), recurrent VF may be treated with catheter ablation by targeting triggering premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) and/or ventricular scar homogenization. Data on optimal ablation strategies in patients with non‐ischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) remain limited.

Cardiovascular preventive role of thiazolidinedione in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Among patients with type 2 diabetes undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, thiazolidinedione use was independently associated with a significantly reduced risk of a composite of myocardial infarction, stroke, and all‐cause death, notably without an increased risk of admission for heart failure. ABSTRACT Background Thiazolidinediones (TZD) are a

Influence of age on the development of stress hyperglycemia during first‐onset ST‐elevation myocardial infarction

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Among 8,779 non‐diabetic patients with first‐onset STEMI, older age was associated with a higher likelihood of stress hyperglycemia. However, the excess mortality risk associated with stress hyperglycemia was greatest in younger patients and attenuated with advancing age, highlighting the possibility of age‐dependent prognostic significance.

Intensive preoperative glucose management including hospitalization is associated with lower surgical site infection in patients with diabetes: A retrospective multicenter observational study

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Preoperative hospitalization for glucose management was associated with a lower risk of surgical site infection in patients with diabetes who underwent surgery under general anesthesia. ABSTRACT Aims Perioperative glycemic control reduces surgical complications, such as surgical site infection (SSI), but evidence regarding the effect of preoperative ...

Targeting Overweight and Obesity Phenotypes for Secondary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease: A Call to Action for the Middle East and Beyond

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Although there are conflicting clinical data on the efficacy of weight reduction in reducing secondary events in patients with comorbid overweight and obesity (OAO) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), there is excellent epidemiological and biological evidence of a cause–effect relationship between OAO, CVD, and other systemic complications ...
