Metabolic bariatric surgery is associated with reduced adverse hepatic and extrahepatic outcomes, and lower all‐cause mortality, in patients with steatotic liver disease

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aim Metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) improves histological endpoints in steatotic liver disease (SLD), but data on longer‐term clinical outcomes in this population are scarce. Here, we assessed the impact of MBS on hepatic and extrahepatic morbidity and mortality in individuals with SLD.

Machine learning prediction of moderate‐to‐severe acute kidney injury after ICU admission and cardiac surgery with urine trace elements

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent complication after ICU admission and cardiac surgery. In this study, 149 ICU patients and 144 post–cardiac surgery patients were evaluated using urinary trace elements with eight machine learning (ML) algorithms. LightGBM, Random Forest and XGBoost showed the highest predictive performance (AUCs .71–.85).

Incidence of aspirin resistance in high‐risk patients following elective total hip and knee arthroplasty

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Aspirin resistance (AR) is linked to increased morbidity and mortality after cardiovascular and neurovascular procedures but has not been investigated after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). To investigate the incidence of AR in high‐risk patients after elective THA/TKA, we conducted a prospective cohort study of ...
