The Concept of Coronary Flow Reserve

open access: hybridJournal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1992
Coronary reserve has been defined as the ratio of coronary resistance under control (rest) conditions and of coronary resistance after maximal coronary vasodilation. The latter can be achieved by various interventions, the most important and clinically relevant example being intravenous administration of dipyridamole at 0.5 mg/kg of body weight.

AT1 receptors: coronary flow and flow reserve [PDF]

open access: bronzeAmerican Journal of Hypertension, 2000
Angiotensin II, through its effects at the angiotensin-type 1 receptor, elevates arterial pressure and exacerbates hypertensive heart disease. Alterations in coronary hemodynamics, including reductions in coronary blood flow and flow reserve promotes coronary insufficiency and contributes to the increased cardiovascular risk associated with these ...

Prognostic Implications of Fractional Flow Reserve After Coronary Stenting

open access: yesJAMA Network Open, 2022
Key Points Question What is the clinical relevance of fractional flow reserve (FFR) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with a drug-eluting stent?

Structure (Epicardial Stenosis) and Function (Microvascular Dysfunction) That Influence Coronary Fractional Flow Reserve Estimation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Background. The treatment of coronary stenosis is decided by performing high risk invasive surgery to generate the fractional flow reserve diagnostics index, a ratio of distal to proximal pressures in respect of coronary atherosclerotic plaques.

Fractional Flow Reserve-Guided PCI as Compared with Coronary Bypass Surgery.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2021
BACKGROUND Patients with three-vessel coronary artery disease have been found to have better outcomes with coronary-artery bypass grafting (CABG) than with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), but studies in which PCI is guided by measurement of ...

Post-stenting fractional flow reserve vs coronary angiography for optimization of percutaneous coronary intervention (TARGET-FFR)

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal, 2021
Aims  A fractional flow reserve (FFR) value ≥0.90 after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is associated with a reduced risk of adverse cardiovascular events.

Fractional flow reserve derived from computed tomography coronary angiography in the assessment and management of stable chest pain: the FORECAST randomized trial

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal, 2021
Aims  Fractional flow reserve (FFRCT) using computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) determines both the presence of coronary artery disease and vessel-specific ischaemia.

Multiparametric analysis of coronary flow in psoriasis using a coronary flow reserve companion. [PDF]

open access: yesEur J Clin Invest, 2022
AbstractBackgroundCoronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) is usually evaluated measuring coronary flow velocity reserve (CFVR). A more comprehensive analysis of CFVR including additional consideration of the associated logical companion‐CFVR, where hyperemic diastolic coronary flow velocity may act as surrogate, was applied in this study to elucidate ...

Intravascular Imaging versus Physiological Assessment versus Biomechanics—Which Is a Better Guide for Coronary Revascularization

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2023
Today, coronary artery disease (CAD) continues to be a prominent cause of death worldwide. A reliable assessment of coronary stenosis represents a prerequisite for the appropriate management of CAD.

Prognostic Implications of Resistive Reserve Ratio in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2020
Background Resistive reserve ratio is a thermodilution‐based index which integrates both coronary flow and pressure. Resistive reserve ratio represents the vasodilatory capacity of interrogated vessels including both epicardial coronary artery and ...
