On the Effect of Coronal Rain on Decayless Kink Oscillations of Coronal Loops [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 689, A295 (2024)
Decayless kink oscillations are ubiquitously observed in active region coronal loops with an almost constant amplitude for several cycles. Decayless kink oscillations of coronal loops triggered by coronal rain have been analysed, but the impact of coronal rain formation in an already oscillating loop is unclear.

Coronated polyhedra and coronated ANRs

open access: yes, 2022
Locally compact separable metrizable spaces are characterized among all metrizable spaces as those that admit a cofinal sequence $K_1\subset K_2\subset\cdots$ of compact subsets. Their Čech cohomology is well-understood due to Petkova's short exact sequence $0\to\lim^1 H^{n-1}(K_i)\to H^n(X)\to\lim H^n(K_i)\to 0$. We study a dual class of spaces.

CORONAL FOURIER POWER SPECTRA: IMPLICATIONS FOR CORONAL SEISMOLOGY AND CORONAL HEATING [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2014
The dynamics of regions of the solar corona are investigated using Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) 171 and 193 data. The coronal emission from the quiet Sun, coronal loop footprints, coronal moss, and from above a sunspot is studied. It is shown that the mean Fourier power spectra in these regions can be described by a power law at lower ...

Bushfire public inquiries: From recommendations to hybrid emergency management arrangements

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Public Administration, EarlyView.
Abstract Victoria, Australia consistently experiences significant bushfires. This article examines the ways in which public inquiry recommendations after major bushfires in Victoria have played an important role in shifting the emphasis of emergency management organisations (EMOs) from bushfire response to bushfire preparedness through hybrid emergency

Accountability, scapegoating and encouraging rebellious joys: Teaching in England

open access: yesBritish Journal of Special Education, EarlyView.
Abstract This article suggests that the rise in referrals for children seen as having specific educational needs in England is the inevitable outcome of a system with ever‐rising expectations and accountability. It suggests two key reasons for this. The first is that the increased pressures upon teachers lead to them needing a ‘scapegoat’ to point the ...

Faithful men and false women: Love‐suicide in early modern English popular print

open access: yesGender &History, EarlyView.
Abstract This article explores the representation of suicide committed for love in English popular print in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. It shows how, within ballads and pamphlets, suicide resulting from failed courtship was often portrayed as romantic and an expression of devotion.

Observations of high and low Fe charge states in individual solar wind streams with coronal-hole origin [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, Volume 593, id.A70, 9 pp, 2016, 2018
The solar wind originating from coronal holes is comparatively well-understood and is characterized by lower densities and average charge states compared to the so-called slow solar wind. Except for wave perturbations, the average properties of the coronal-hole solar wind are passably constant.

How did investigations into spontaneous human combustion influence alcohol medicine? An examination of the medical and literary discussions that brought the two together

open access: yesAddiction, Volume 120, Issue 5, Page 1051-1057, May 2025.
