Summary A review of the literature indicates that 39 cases of coronoid process enlargement have been reported; 13 of these patients had bilateral involvement. The review includes French publications in which the condition is termed Jacob's disease.

Benzenoids, Single Coronoids and Multiple Coronoids
1994This chapter deals with certain nonhelicenic (geometrically planar) polyhexes, which may be simply connected (without holes) or multiply connected with a varying number of corona holes. It is recalled that a corona hole by definition should have a size of at least two hexagons.

Coronoid fractures are rarely isolated injuries; they are most commonly encountered in association with other elbow injuries as part of 3 major instability patterns. Type 1 fractures are usually associated with terrible triad injuries. Type 2 fractures are associated with varus posteromedial rotatory instability.

Bilateral Coronoid Hyperplasia
Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, 1985Bilateral coronoid hyperplasia, a rare condition occurring primarily in males, is characterized by progressive, asymptomatic limitation of all mandibular movements which usually begins around the age of puberty. The condition is diagnosed on the basis of historical and radiographic findings and is treated by the surgical removal of the enlarged ...

The patient was a 23-year-old man currently serving in the military who presented to a direct access physical therapy clinic with a chief complaint of left elbow pain. Due to the traumatic mechanism of the injury and the patient's inability to fully extend his elbow, radiographs were ordered by the physical therapist. The lateral radiograph revealed a

Hand Clinics
This article reviews the role of the coronoid in elbow stability and highlights the surgical approaches to the coronoid. Particular attention is paid to medial approaches to the coronoid with detailed descriptions of each. Different approaches will allow access to various parts of the coronoid, and therefore selection of an appropriate medial approach ...

Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2008
The coronoid process is one of the main constraints providing ulnohumeral joint stability. The coronoid process and the radial head provide a buttress against posterior displacement of the elbow joint. Fracture of the coronoid process can be either an isolated finding following elbow dislocation or part of a more complex fracture-dislocation.

Fractures of the coronoid process
Hand Clinics, 2004Proper treatment of coronoid fractures requires an understanding of the bony and soft tissue anatomy of the elbow and the various injury mechanisms that occur. Newer fracture classifications help direct treatment based on the size and location of the fracture, injury mechanism, and associated stability of the elbow.

The ‘terrible triad’ injury of the elbow is defined as a dislocation of the elbow with concomitant fractures of the radial head and coronoid process. The term was based on reports of poor outcomes following this pattern of injury. However, the ‘terrible triad’ concept has meant that some very complex elbow fracture-dislocations are considered alongside

Finite element analysis of a customized coronoid prosthesis for traumatic coronoid deficiency
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow SurgeryTraumatic coronoid deficiency with persistent elbow instability is a challenging condition. Autologous bone graft reconstruction is often associated with a range of additional clinical problems and the outcome is often unpredictable. The purpose of this study was to design a prosthetic device that can reconstruct coronoid deficiency of any height and ...
