Anatomy and variation in the paraphyletic Mosasaurus lemonnieri assemblage from the Craie phosphatée de ciply, Belgium

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Nineteenth century excavations of the Ciply‐Malogne Phosphatic Chalk Formation in Hainaut, Belgium, yielded over 50 partial mosasaur skeletons, the majority of which were referred to the species Mosasaurus lemonnieri Dollo, 1889. In the years since, this taxon has experienced a complicated taxonomic history, and its exceptional hypodigm has ...

Extra-articular ankylosis after zygoma fracture; A case report & review of literature

open access: yesJournal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research, 2013
Extra-articular temporomandibular bony ankylosis between the coronoid process and the zygoma is quite uncommon. In this paper we present a case of fusion of the left coronoid to the zygomatic bone in a 23-year-old male. This bony ankylosis was the result

Redescription of the cranial morphology of Amphisbaena braestrupi and Amphisbaena laurenti (Squamata: Amphisbaenidae) from the Pleistocene of Brazil using x‐ray computed tomography

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Amphisbaenians (Squamata: Amphisbaenidae) are fossorial reptiles with highly specialized cranial morphology, yet their fossil record is frequently limited by fragmentary preservation. This study provides a detailed osteological redescription of the skulls of Amphisbaena braestrupi and Amphisbaena laurenti from the Pleistocene of Lagoa Santa ...

Assessment of intraspecific skull variation in the Campanian baenid turtle Plesiobaena antiqua

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Baenids are freshwater paracryptodiran turtles with a fossil record ranging from the Early Cretaceous to the Eocene. The baenid Plesiobaena antiqua is the most common turtle in the Campanian (Late Cretaceous) Dinosaur Park Formation in Canada, but the apparent intraspecific variation remains poorly understood.

A workflow for 3D printing highly accurate, customized human skull models for anatomical education and clinical practice

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Our custom workflow creates anatomically accurate and diverse 3D skull models. Precise sex‐specific anatomical detail is ensured by CT‐based segmentation. Our models capture anatomical variations and pathologies. Our cost‐effective 3D printing workflow enhances model durability and fidelity.

A Possible Case of Temporomandibular Joint Dislocation, Trepanation, and Metabolic Bone Disease in a Young Adolescent From North‐Central Myanmar (1000–700 bce)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This osteobiography explores the life history of an adolescent who lived during the early‐mid Bronze Age (c. 1000–700 bce) and was buried at Nyaung'gan, a site in north‐central Myanmar. Burial 3b had multiple skeletal lesions, and their bones were covered in well‐remodeled subperiosteal new bone.

Is Lateral Ligament Complex Repair Necessary in All Unstable Elbow Injuries with Coronoid Fractures? A Comparative Study: A Case Series [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Orthopedics and Joint Surgery
Background: Unstable elbow injuries result in persistent discomfort, recurring instability, stiffness, and arthritis. The coronoid is prone to fracture as a result of axial stress and it serves as an anterior buttress that prevents the posterior ulna ...

Updating the forelimb anatomy of the domestic cat (Felis catus, Felidae) based on evolutionary inferences of its muscles and nerves I: Shoulder and brachium

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
In this study, we provide a detailed description of the shoulder and brachium muscles and the brachial plexus of the domestic cat (Felis catus). We identified muscular variants (articularis humeri, coracobrachialis longus, biceps brachii caput breve), clarified the independence of the anconeus medialis muscle from the triceps brachii muscle, and ...
