IMPROVING THE RESPONSE TIME FOR THE CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE OF RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE: A CASE STUDY OF THE WESTERN CAPE PASSENGER RAIL NETWORK

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Industrial Engineering, 2019
Response time for repairing rail infrastructure failures remains a challenge in the South African rail industry. The ‘mean time to return’ metric consists of mean time to respond and mean time to repair. This article investigates the mean time to respond

Does OO sync with the way we think? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Given that corrective-maintenance costs already dominate the software life cycle and look set to increase significantly, reliability in the form of reducing such costs should be the most important software improvement goal.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE SYSTEMS OF PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTIONS IN GHANA: A CASE STUDY OF LA GENERAL HOSPITAL ACCRA

open access: yesJournal of Construction Project Management and Innovation, 2011
It is highly desirable but hardly feasible to produce buildings that are maintenance free although much can be done at the design stage to reduce the amount of subsequent maintenance works. The research aim was to examine the various maintenance systems

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The Co-Evolution of Test Maintenance and Code Maintenance through the lens of Fine-Grained Semantic Changes

open access: yes, 2017
Automatic testing is a widely adopted technique for improving software quality. Software developers add, remove and update test methods and test classes as part of the software development process as well as during the evolution phase, following the ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Modelling vessel fleet composition for maintenance operations at offshore wind farms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Chartering a vessel fleet to support maintenance operations at offshore wind farms (OWF's) constitutes one of the major costs of maintaining this type of installations.
