Wild Divergence: Molina's Hog‐Nosed Skunk (Conepatus chinga) and South American Coati's (Nasua nasua) Responses to Landscape Changes in the Highly Neglected Uruguayan Savannah

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 9, September 2025.
The South American coati (Nasua nasua) has a greater chance of occupying areas with more forests. The Molina hog‐nosed skunk has a greater occupancy in native grasslands and crop farm areas. The coati has a smaller chance of occupying areas of crop farming and native grasslands.

When do citizen scientists record biodiversity? Non‐random temporal patterns of recording effort and associated factors

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 860-870, April 2025.
Abstract Citizen science data are increasingly used for ecological research, biodiversity conservation and monitoring. However, these data often present significant analytical challenges due to uneven recording efforts by citizen scientists. Biases caused by intra‐annual differences in levels of recording activity can be particularly severe, hindering ...

Describing viewpoints on human‐nature relationships to unveil socio‐environmental conflicts and support community‐based projects

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 2, Page 475-492, February 2025.
Abstract Socio‐environmental changes are threatening Indigenous peoples and local communities (IP&LC), hampering conservation efforts, jeopardizing biocultural diversity and escalating environmental injustice. This situation fostered both collaborative research projects showing the potential of engaging with IP&LC for conserving biocultural diversity ...

Ecosystem type affects how Amazonian tree species invest in stem and twig wood

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 7, Page 1486-1496, July 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Wood density (WD) is a key functional trait for its importance in tree performance and in biomass calculations of forests. Yet, the variation of WD among different woody tree parts, how this varies across ecosystems, and how this influences estimates of forest carbon ...
