Protein requirements for maintenance and growth of Corriedale lambs

Livestock Science, 2021
Abstract The protein requirements of lambs for growth and fiber production can be breed specific. The Corriedale is a dual-purpose lamb breed, suitable for fleece and meat production; however, there is no information regarding the specific protein requirements for its growth and maintenance.

Epidemiological Observations in a Corriedale Flock affected by Brucella ovis

Veterinary Research Communications, 1998
Brucellosis in sheep, caused by Brucella ovis, is primarily a chronic infectious disease of rams with epididymitis as its most characteristic lesion. Six hundred rams from an infected farm were clinically and serologically examined once a year, over a 3-year period. An increase from 2.1% to 6.3% in the prevalence of animals serologically positive to B.

Arteriosclerosis with metastatic calcification in corriedale sheep in Punjab

Atherosclerosis, 1974
Summary An unusual disease has been observed in about 90% of sheep at the breeding farm at Mattewara, Ludhiana, India. Fifty-three out of 57 adult Corriedale sheep examined after death showed plaque formation in the aorta and other arteries. Histopathological examination revealed intense calcification of the medial layer and proliferation of intimal ...

Heritability of scrotal circumference in Corriedale rams

Small Ruminant Research, 1992
Abstract Measurements of scrotal circumference were recorded for 1154 ram Corriedale lambs at ten studs. The best estimate was 0.50±0.11 cm, which concurs with reports on other breeds. Due to this value and the importance of scrotal circumference on reproductive aspects, its employment has been suggested as an additional criterion in sheep selection ...

Reproduction rate, milk and wool production of Corriedale and East Friesian×Corriedale F1 ewes grazing on natural pastures

Small Ruminant Research, 2010
Abstract A 5-year survey was undertaken to compare the productivity of crossbred ewes (East Friesian (EF) sires × Corriedale (C) dams), relative to purebred Corriedale ewes in terms of reproduction rate, wool production and quality and milk production.

Will Corriedale ewes accept odor-transferred lambs?

Applied Animal Behaviour Science, 1992
Abstract Fostering technique by transfer of the own-lamb odor to an alien lamb with a cotton stockinette was evaluated in 21 Corriedale ewes. Stockinettes were used on the own lamb during 1–2 days post-partum, and were transferred to an alien lamb immediately before being submitted to a 48-h fostering period.

Reproductive performance of Polwarth and corriedale sheep in Tasmania

Theriogenology, 1981
The reproductive performance of 27 Polwarth and 9 Corriedale flocks was studied under commercial conditions in Tasmania. Mean ovulation rate was 149% but the mean number of lambs marked per ewe joined was only 88%. The major sources of wastage contributing to the overall loss were identified as an 18% loss of embryos in twin-ovulating ewes which gave ...

Milk quality in Merino and Corriedale ewes

Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1966
Comparisons have been made of the milk quality of ewes of two strains of Merino, strong-wool (S) and medium-wool Peppin (B), and of two breeds, strong-wool Merino and Corriedale (C). The strains were compared in two ways – for ewes suckling single lambs and for ewes suckling a pair of twins containing one lamb of each strain, and the breeds were ...

Estimation of heterosis in Merino × Corriedale crosses with sheep

Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1971
Reproduction rate data (lambs born, lamb survival rate, and lamb body weight) are presented for purebred Merino and Corriedale ewes and their reciprocal crosses. The four breeds were born in each of two years (1961 and 1962) and mated in each of two years (1963 and 1964, 1964 and 1966) to Dorset Horn rams.
