Inhibition of pitting on carbon steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide pitting related failures are a prime concern in oil and gas internal pipelines. Often, these types of failure have a great impact on safety and environmental matters and can cause severe financial consequences to the

Corrosion inhibition of copper with octadecylphosphonic acid (ODPA) in a simulated indoor atmospheric environment

open access: yes, 2021
The corrosion inhibition of self-assembled octadecylphosphonic acid (ODPA) layers on non-oxidized and pre-oxidized copper and Langmuir-Blodgett deposited ODPA layers on pre-oxidized copper was investigated under a simulated indoor atmospheric corrosion ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Synergistic Corrosion Inhibition of Medium Carbon Steel Using Grapeseed and Palm Kernel Essential Oil Extracts in NaCl Environment [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Corrosion in industrial applications significantly affects carbon steel, a widely used but corrosion-prone material. This study examines the inhibition performance of grapeseed (GS) and palm kernel (PK) essential oil extracts, along with their ...

Flow accelerated preferential weld corrosion of X65 steel in brine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Preferential weld corrosion (PWC) remains a major operational challenge that jeopardizes the integrity of oil and gas production facilities. It is the selective dissolution of metal associated with welds, such that the weld metal (WM) and / or the ...

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

Corrosion inhibitor potential of four phenyltetrazoles derivatives using density functional theory and quantitative structure-activity relationships approach

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2019
The corrosion inhibition potential of four phenyltetrazole derivatives (M1- 4) were investigated by theoretical methods. The efficiency of corrosion inhibitors depends on many quantum chemical descriptors: chemical hardness, softness, electronegativity,

Flexible liners for corrosion protection of pipelines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Flexible plastic liners are sometimes installed into new and existing oil and gas pipelines to prevent corrosion of the pipe wall. A practical difficulty of this method is that the plastic liners are permeable to gases, which can collect and form an ...

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

Study on Effect of Benzotriazole and Surfactants on Corrosion Inhibition of Copper Alloys in Sulphuric Acid

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2015
This research investigated the corrosion inhibition and corrosion rates of copper alloys in sulphuric acid by benzotriazole (BTAH) and surfactants. Three types of surfactants namely sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), cetyle trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB ...
