Mechanism of Fretting Corrosion
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1954Abstract A review of the facts suggests that the mechanism of fretting corrosion includes a chemical factor and a mechanical factor, with observed damage, in general, resulting from both. An asperity rubbing on a metal surface is considered to produce a track of clean metal which immediately oxidizes, or upon which gas rapidly adsorbs ...

Mechanisms of Pitting Corrosion
2011Pitting corrosion occurs at passivated metal surfaces during the access of so-called aggressive anions. Halides very effectively attack passivating thin oxide layers, leading to an intense localized dissolution of the metal surface, which is otherwise protected by the passive layer against general dissolution. Chlorides cause the most serious problems

Mechanisms of Corrosion Fatigue
1996AbstractCorrosion fatigue refers to the phenomenon of cracking in materials under the combined actions of fatigue loading and a corrosive environment. This article focuses on the various mechanisms of corrosion fatigue, namely, hydrogen-assisted cracking, anodic dissolution, and surface energy reduction.
