Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Corrosion Rate of Carbon Steel A106 Gr B in Amine-CO2 Contained Solutions

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Computing, Engineering and Design, 2021
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the corrosive element which exists in oil and gas industries. To prevent CO2 corrosion on carbon steel pipelines, amine-base solvent and caustic solutions are commonly applied.

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Effect of heat treatment on bio-corrosion rate of steel structure (API 5L) in marine evironment

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
One of the cause of corrosion is the attachment of bacteria or commonly called as bio-corrosion or Microbial Influenced Corrosion (MIC). This aim of the research was to determine effect of heat treatment process on the bio-corrosion rate of API 5L steel.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Rational determination of real-time corrosion rates based on ultrasonic wall thickness loss data

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation
Real-time corrosion rate measurement is crucial to understanding corrosion kinetics and proposing effective corrosion control and prevention strategies. In situ ultrasonic testing has emerged as a promising approach for monitoring corrosion-induced wall ...

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...

Effects of oxidation and hot corrosion in a nickel disc alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper describes work to study oxidation and hot corrosion damage in nickel disc alloy RR1000. Oxidation damage has been characterised via mass change data from thermogravimetric analyses at temperatures from 700 to 800 ºC and cyclic oxidation ...
