Technical Note: Wear Corrosion: Separation of the Components of Corrosion and Wear

Corrosion, 1992
An apparatus has been designed that permits separation of the wear and corrosion components of wear corrosion. A loaded ruby ball describes a circular track on a sheet specimen in a corrosion environment, with and without cathodic protection applied to the specimen to produce wear and wear corrosion, respectively.

Conjoint corrosion and wear in titanium alloys

Biomaterials, 1999
When considering titanium alloys for orthopaedic applications it is important to examine the conjoint action of corrosion and wear. In this study we investigate the corrosion and wear behaviour of Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-6Al-7Nb and Ti-13Nb-13Zr in phosphate buffered saline (PBS), bovine albumin solutions in PBS and 10% foetal calf serum solutions in PBS.

Corrosive Wear Principles

CORROSION 1992, 1992
Abstract The dual effects of corrosion and wear operate together in such industries as paper and pulp, coal handling, mining, and sugar beet extraction. There is a synergistic effect that causes far greater wastage to carbon steels, alloy steels, and even much more abrasion resistant cast irons.

Corrosion and Wear

1991
The composition and physical integrity of a solid material are altered in a corrosive environment. In chemical corrosion, the material is dissolved by a corrosive liquid. In electrochemical corrosion, metal atoms are removed from the solid material as the result of an electric circuit that is produced.

Wear–corrosion mechanism of hard chromium coatings

Wear, 2002
Abstract Hard chromium coatings are frequently used for application where corrosion and wear degradation are combined, as an example in earthmovers, in mining transport systems or in moulds for plastics. The aim of this work is to study the mechanisms of tribocorrosion of hard chromium coated steel bars in a sodium chlorides solution under sliding ...

Operation of structures with corrosive wear

Russian Engineering Research, 2013
An experimental-theoretical method is proposed for determining the mechanical properties of structures subject to corrosive wear. The corresponding apparatus is developed.

The Effect of Yttrium on Wear, Corrosion and Corrosive Wear of Mg-Al Alloys

2017
Magnesium remarkably deserves considerable interest from industry especially transportation sector because of its high strength to weight ratio. However, poor wear resistance and low corrosion resistance of magnesium are barriers to extend use of its alloys.

Macrocyclic Compounds for Corrosion-Wear

CORROSION 1990, 1990
Abstract The possible application of Schiff base compounds as corrosion- and wear-protective additives in lubricant formulations suitable for use at high temperatures (i.e., ≥200 °C) has been investigated. In addition to their planar structure and quadridentate metal-binding characteristics similar to those of the macrocyclic compounds ...

The Role of Diffusion in Corrosive Wear

A S L E Transactions, 1968
Oxygen diffusion through the lubricant film is an important factor in corrosive wear, a type of wear where the primary attack is the formation of iron oxide at the rubbing surface. Experimental data were obtained in a ball-on-cylinder device and quantitatively correlated with oxygen availability by a mathematical model.

Corrosive-wear of buoy chain

OCEANS '88. 'A Partnership of Marine Interests'. Proceedings, 2005
Abstract : Corrosive-wear, which is responsible for the majority of buoy chain degradation, was investigated in two laboratory studies. The objective of the first study was to isolate the two components, corrosion and wear, in order to determine each of their influences on the corrosive-wear process on steels.
