Thermomechanical Behaviors of a Novel Double-Layer Corrugated Core Structure for Thermal Protection System

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2023
Corrugated core sandwich structures have great potential in the application to thermal protection system of aerospace vehicles. However, the traditional layout of web plates could inevitably lead to thermal short effects and high risk of buckling failure

Ultra-broadband Light Absorption by a Sawtooth Anisotropic Metamaterial Slab [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present an ultra broadband thin-film infrared absorber made of saw-toothed anisotropic metamaterial. Absorbtivity of higher than 95% at normal incidence is supported in a wide range of frequencies, where the full absorption width at half maximum is ...

Scaling of Planar Sodium‐Nickel Chloride Battery Cells to 90 cm2 Active Area

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2025.
Large planar Na β′′ alumina electrolytes are prepared by tape‐casting and die‐pressing. These ceramic electrolytes are used to prepare planar sodium‐nickel chloride cells with 90 cm2 active area, providing a high capacity of 7 Ah. Successful cell cycling is demonstrated at 300 °C at rates up to C/4 (20 mA cm−2) for a cumulative capacity of 3.6 Ah cm−2.

Spreading of a Macroscopic Lattice Gas

open access: yes, 1996
We present a simple mechanical model for dynamic wetting phenomena. Metallic balls spread along a periodically corrugated surface simulating molecules of liquid advancing along a solid substrate.

Optimization of metal sandvich plates with corrugated core

open access: yesInternational journal for engineering modelling, 2005
This paper intends to lay out a possible approach to optimizing the metal-metal sandwiches plates with corrugated core based on a number of assumptions and for certain selected cases. The objective functions and constraints are derived based on standard requirements of minimum weight and satisfaction of static, structural and design constraints.

Effect of different flue gas recirculation rates on low‐NOx combustion characteristics: A numerical simulation based on the combustion process of a gas boiler

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract NOx emissions from gas boilers severely impact the environment, and flue gas recirculation (FGR) technology can effectively reduce such emissions, yet the effects of different FGR rates on combustion performance and NOx formation remain unclear. This study thus used numerical simulation (via ANSYS Fluent, adopting the realizable k‐ε turbulence

A succession of two viral lattices drives vaccinia virus assembly.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2023
During its cytoplasmic replication, vaccinia virus assembles non-infectious spherical immature virions (IV) coated by a viral D13 lattice. Subsequently, IV mature into infectious brick-shaped intracellular mature virions (IMV) that lack D13.

Detection of a Corrugated Velocity Pattern in the Spiral Galaxy NGC 5427 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Here we report the detection, in Halpha emission, of a radial corrugation in the velocity field of the spiral galaxy NGC 5427. The central velocity of the Halpha line displays coherent, wavy-like variations in the vicinity of the spiral arms. The spectra
