Wrinkling of corrugated skin sandwich panels

Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, 2007
Abstract Compression wrinkling of composite sandwich panels with corrugated skins was investigated numerically, analytically and experimentally. Semi-circular and sine-wave shaped corrugations were studied. The corrugations significantly increased wrinkling strength when compared with equal mass flat panels.

Optimal design of compression corrugated panels

Thin-Walled Structures, 2005
Compression panels comprised of a corrugated core bonded to either one or two face sheets are optimally designed for minimum weight. Results obtained from two optimization procedures are compared: naive optimization where simultaneous occurrence of failure modes is assumed, and sequential quadratic programming (SQP) based optimization. A total of eight

Vibration Analysis of Corrugation-Stiffened Panels

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1978
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Automobile panels are stiffened in a variety of ways to meet engineering design criteria. Current example panels are numerous and include the roof, deck lid, hood, floor pan, etc. If lightweight, low modulus materials (e.g., aluminum, sheet molding compound) are to be considered for automobile panels, it can be ...

Compressive Behaviour of Corrugated Board Panels

Journal of Composite Materials, 2001
The compressive responses and failure mechanisms of corrugated sandwich panels subjected to uniform lateral compression are examined by a combined theoretical and experimental study. Particular focus is placed on illuminating the role of the initially sinusoidal fluting in dominating the overall deformation and local collapse of the board panel.

Corrugated panel structure

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997
A corrugated panel structure, for use in the construction of a building wall or other structural application, includes a corrugated panel of broad, planar configuration and a pair of elongated caps mounted on opposite edges of the corrugated panel. Each of the elongated caps has a protruding central channel which is slotted to receive the individual ...

Hierarchical Corrugated Core Sandwich Panel Concepts

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2005
The transverse compression and shear collapse mechanisms of a second order, hierarchical corrugated truss structure have been analyzed. The two competing collapse modes of a first order corrugated truss are elastic buckling or plastic yielding of the truss members. In second order trusses, elastic buckling and yielding of the larger and smaller struts,

Corrugated veneer panel thermophysical properties

Construction Materials
The article substantiates the need to develop new mechanisms for the hardwood use in modern conditions of Republic of Karelia timber industry. One of the potential uses of birch wood in wooden house construction is building materials production from veneer and slab materials based on it.

Crush Behavior of Corrugated Cores Sandwich Panels

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The out-of-plane quasi-static compressive behavior of four types of corrugated cores (V-type, U-type, X-type and Y-type core) has been investigated by experiment and FE simulations. By transient dynamic finite element analysis code MSC.Dytran numerical simulations were performed for calculating crushing forces, deformation mode and energy absorption ...

The Elastic Constants of Corrugated Board Panels

Journal of Composite Materials, 2001
Because corrugated board panels inevitably contain various processing- induced geometrical imperfections, to develop simple and yet reliable methods for measuring the elastic properties of orthotropic corrugated board panels is not only vitally important for the packaging industry, but also key for any analytical/numerical modeling of the deformation ...

Shear buckling of corrugated composite panels

Composite Structures, 1987
Abstract Corrugated composite panels are used in aerospace vehicles primarily because of their ability to withstand higher loads before buckling compared to plain sheets. Shear buckling is one of the important modes of failure. In this paper are presented details of prediction of the shear buckling loads of composite panels having sinusoidal or hat ...
