Nontoxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae: An Emerging Pathogen in England and Wales?
Confirmed isolates of nontoxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae in England and Wales increased substantially from 1986 to 1994. Ribotyping of 121 isolates confirmed in 1995 showed that 90 were of a single strain isolated exclusively from the throat; none ...

Complexation of CcmB with CcmACD safeguards heme translocation for cytochrome c maturation
Abstract Cytochrome c maturation (CCM), a posttranslational modification involving covalent attachment of heme to polypeptides (apocyt c), is essential for the activity and cellular function of cytochromes c. Here, we identify and substantiate CcmB as heme translocase in bacteria.

Corynebacterium diphtheria, Adhesion, Type and Biofilm Cultures
Relevance. It is now known that toxigenic strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae are capable not only of adhesion, but also of invasion into epithelial cells of the upper respiratory tract.

Abstract Prokaryotic heme biosynthesis in Gram‐positive bacteria follows the coproporphyrin‐dependent heme biosynthesis pathway. The last step in this pathway is catalyzed by the enzyme coproheme decarboxylase, which oxidatively transforms two propionate groups into vinyl groups yielding heme b.

Dog bites lead to bacterial infections. Isolation and identification of zoonotic bacterial species from the oral cavities of indigenous dogs using biochemical tests were carried out. The antibiotic susceptibility profile of the commonly identified bacteria species was established using Kirby–Bauer disk diffusion approach.

Antimicrobial resistance among Brazilian Corynebacterium diphtheriae strains
The increasing problems with multidrug resistance in relation to Corynebacterium, including C. diphtheriae, are examples of challenges confronting many countries. For this reason, Brazilian C.

Örjan Ouchterlony and the antigen–antibody double diffusion‐in‐gel: a survey
The Swedish scientist Örjan Ouchterlony published four ground‐breaking papers 1948–1966 in Acta Pathol Microbiol Scand where he described a new method of antigen–antibody reactions in gel. He described and defined the ‘reaction of identity’ and ‘reaction of partial identity’ when he used related antigens and ‘reaction of non‐identity’ when he used non ...
