Corynebacterium Striatum, an Emerging Nosocomial Pathogen: Case Reports
Infectious Disorders - Drug Targets, 2021Background:: Corynebacterium striatum is an emerging nosocomial pathogen, capable of causing a variety of infections in immunocompromised and hospitalized patients. Case Presentation: We describe three cases of infection by C. striatum that were initially considered as contamination.

Corynebacterium striatum: an underappreciated community and nosocomial pathogen
Journal of Infection, 2005Corynebacterium striatum (CS) is an underappreciated human pathogen that has been associated with serious infections in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised hosts. CS infections tend to be more frequent in males and major infection sites have included blood stream, lung, and central nervous system.

Pulmonary abscess due to Corynebacterium striatum.
Non-diphtheria corynebacteria are normal commensals of the skin and mucous membranes of humans. Increasingly, however, these saprophytic organisms are being recognized as pathogens. Patients infected with these bacteria typically have an underlying immunosuppressive process and/or an indwelling venous catheter.

Hard-to-heal peripheral wounds infected with Corynebacterium striatum: a prospective study
Objective: To investigate Corynebacterium striatum as a nosocomial pathogen infecting hard-to-heal peripheral wounds, such as skin wounds, soft tissue abscesses and osteomyelitis.

About a bloodstream Corynebacterium striatum isolate
Folia Microbiologica, 2013Corynebacterium striatum is often dismissed as a contaminant when cultivated from blood samples; indeed, it is a skin saprophyte that may therefore be introduced into the clinical specimen accidentally. Nevertheless, the organism can be responsible for true bacteraemias, and multidrug resistance spread among nosocomial strains is of increasing concern.

Infections with Corynebacterium striatum have been described in the literature over the last 2 decades, with the majority being bacteremia, central line infections, and occasionally, endocarditis.

Pleuropulmonary infection due to Corynebacterium striatum
British Journal of Diseases of the Chest, 1980Corynebacterium striatum, a saprophytic diphtheroid in man, caused a pleuropulmonary infection in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. This organism has not previously been described as a cause of human disease.

Corynebacterium striatum: A Diphtheroid with Pathogenic Potential
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1993Although nondiphtherial corynebacteria are ubiquitous in nature and commonly colonize the skin and mucous membranes of humans, they rarely account for clinical infection. Corynebacterium striatum has rarely been reported to be a pathogen, causing pleuropulmonary infections and bacteremia in only immunocompromised or anatomically altered patients.

A Corynebacterium striatum endocarditis on a carrier of pacemaker
Annales de biologie clinique, 2012We report a new case of a Corynebacterium striatum endocarditis on a carrier of a pacemaker. Corynebacterium striatum was isolated from blood culture, the pulse generator and the pacing lead. A literature review of Corynebacterium striatum endocarditis on a carrier of pacemaker was conducted.

Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice
Abstract Corynebacterium striatum (C. striatum) is a rapidly emerging multidrug-resistant organism commonly found as a skin and respiratory tract commensal. The first case of C. striatum infection was published in 1980 in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia who had a pleuropulmonary infection.
