Contribution of coseismic deformations on the current expansion of the Earth

Journal of Geodynamics, 2016
Abstract In this paper, the effects of earthquake source parameters (especially the rake angle and the dip angle) on changes in the overall volume and mean radius of the Earth are discussed, and it is herein concluded that dip-slip earthquakes produce the maximum changes in the Earth’s mean radius.

Coseismic river response to fault surface deformation.

The interaction between active tectonics and river morphodynamics is a core principle in tectonic and fluvial geomorphology. Despite the potential hazard implications, coseismic river response (CRR) remains largely unexplored and is often overlooked in earthquake multi-hazard assessments.

Inversion of ocean surface currents to obtain coseismic seafloor deformation.

During an earthquake, the coseismic deformation of the ocean floor is transmitted through the water column. If the earthquake’s energy is sufficiently large, it can uplift the ocean surface, and the subsequent collapse due to gravity leads to the propagation of waves as a tsunami.

Coseismic deformations in bottom sediments of lakes in Eastern Fennoscandia

Морские и озёрные бассейны восточной периферии Балтийского щита в четвертичное время
The paper reviews of the available scattered information, as well as new data obtained in recent years on traces of Holocene earthquakes in lakes associated with active fault structures in the Karelia and Kola region. We present lithological-stratigraphical, paleobotanical, chronometrical data, as well as the results of geophysical studies (ground ...

Coseismic deformation observed with radar interferometry: Great earthquakes and atmospheric noise

2017
Spatially dense maps of coseismic deformation derived from Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) datasets result in valuable constraints on earthquake processes. The recent increase in the quantity of observations of coseismic deformation facilitates the examination of signals in many tectonic environments associated with earthquakes of ...
