Evolution of cosmic networks

Physical Review D, 1987
The cosmological evolution of three-dimensional networks of monopoles connected by strings is studied both numerically and analytically. We find that the networks evolve in a self-similar fashion. Monopoles and antimonopoles annihilate, creating larger and larger gaps in the network, so that the typical scale of the network grows proportionally to time.

Cosmic Chemical Evolution

2023
Elemental abundances measured in stars and gas of local and high-redshift galaxies inform on the modes and time scales of galaxy formation and evolution. In this talk, I review some important chemical diagnostics, emphasising the uncertainties that still plague the comparison between model predictions and observations.

Cosmic evolution of nontopological solitons

Physical Review D, 1989
Nontopological solitons are stable field configurations which may be formed in a primordial phase transition. We study their cosmic evolution and examine the possibility that such objects could contribute significantly to the energy density of the Universe.

GALAXY EVOLUTION THROUGH THE COSMIC TIME

International Journal of Modern Physics D, 2010
Elliptical galaxies are the best systems to study the early star formation activity in the universe. This work aims to understand the formation and evolution of these objects through the study of the integrated properties of their stellar populations.

Evolution of superconducting cosmic loops

Physical Review D, 1989
The evolution of superconducting cosmic loops is studied numerically. The back reaction of the electromagnetic radiation on the string and the current is considered. It is shown that the infinitely thin string does not lead to a ''renormalizable'' back reaction, contrary to the case of a pointlike charge.

Cosmic Chemical Evolution

2011
Cosmic chemical evolution describes the chemical enrichment occurring in a unitary comoving volume of the Universe as a function of cosmic time. While galactic chemical evolution concerns single galaxies, cosmic chemical evolution refers to a mixture of galaxies of different morphological type whose contributions to chemical enrichment are weighted ...

Early cosmic chemical evolution

Physica Scripta, 2008
The chemical abundance patterns observed in old and metal-poor stars in the Milky Way predominantly contain the signature of the first supernovae (SNe), and thus allow us to probe the first stars that formed in the universe. Of particular interest is the possible existence of a population of metal-free very massive stars, which are a natural ...
