Stratosphere‐Troposphere Exchange of Water Vapor Based on Observations and Reanalyses

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 24, 28 December 2025.
Abstract This study provides the first estimates of the global stratosphere‐troposphere exchange (STE) of water vapor (H2O) using the lowermost stratosphere mass budget approach. Observationally derived H2O fluxes across the isentropic surface fitted to the tropical tropopause are −1.16 ± 0.20 Pg/yr in the Northern Hemisphere extratropics, −0.94 ± 0.18

The Cosmic Microwave Background Optical Depth Constrains the Duration of Reionization

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Recently, it was pointed out that invoking a large value of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) optical depth, τ _CMB  = 0.09, could help resolve tensions between Dark Energy Survey Instrument DR2 baryon acoustic oscillation data and the CMB.

An Accelerated Discrete Ordinate Method (ADOM) Developed for Scalar Radiative Transfer by Merging Adjacent Clear‐Sky Atmospheric Layers: Forward and Jacobians Derivation

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 17, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract In this study, an Accelerated Discrete Ordinate Method (ADOM) is proposed to enhance the computational efficiency of multi‐layer radiative transfer (RT) simulations while maintaining a high accuracy. ADOM applies the Discrete Ordinate Method (DOM) only in scattering layers, while the radiances for the adjacent clear‐sky layers are merged and ...

Nuclear Physics Meets the Sources of the Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The determination of the injection composition of cosmic ray nuclei within astrophysical sources requires sufficiently accurate descriptions of the source physics and the propagation – apart from controlling astrophysical uncertainties.

James Buttle Review: Dynamic Water Storage Shapes Critical Zone Function in Snow‐Dominated Mountain Watersheds

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 39, Issue 11, November 2025.
Dynamic storage in snow‐dominated mountain systems includes snowpacks, plant accessible water (PAW), groundwater and surface. We summarise recent advances in measuring and modelling these dynamic stores. Our review highlights spatial heterogeneity and time evolution of capacity and filling/depletion of these stores and discusses implications for ...

Progress in fiber‐shaped zinc batteries: From structure, manufacturing, optimization to application

open access: yesInfoMat, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2025.
In this review, four aspects of fiber‐shaped zinc batteries (FZBs) are systematically summarized: structure, manufacturing, optimization, and application. The structure of FZBs is first presented, encompassing common electrodes, electrolytes, current collectors, encapsulating materials, and various electrode assembly architectures.

Kinetics of Formation of Starch Microspheres Produced Using Aqueous Two‐Phase Systems With Different Polymers in the Continuous Phase

open access: yesStarch - Stärke, Volume 77, Issue 10, October 2025.
The kinetics of starch microsphere formation in aqueous two‐phase systems. Raman, X‐ray diffraction, and isothermal calorimetry shows that crystallization and heat flow development will be affected by the polymers used in the continues phase. ABSTRACT Starch microspheres are employed in medicinal products as embolization agents and drug delivery ...

The Atacama Cosmology Telescope: Millimeter Observations of a Population of Asteroids or: ACTeroids

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present fluxes and light curves for a population of asteroids at millimeter wavelengths, detected by the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) over 18,000 deg ^2 of the sky using data from 2017 to 2021.

Tropical Tropopause Layer Evolution During QBO Disruptions

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 130, Issue 18, 28 September 2025.
Abstract The tropical tropopause layer (TTL) is studied during 2015/16 and 2019/20 quasi‐biennial oscillation (QBO) disruption events using GNSS‐RO and SWOOSH satellite observations and the ERA5 reanalysis. By compositing temperature, water vapor, and tropical upwelling during different phases of QBO and QBO disruptions (XQBO), we show that XQBO events
