Results from ALICE

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
ALICE, the dedicated heavy-ion experiment at the LHC, has also a rich pp program benefiting from its low material budget, low magnetic field, and its extensive particle identification capabilities.

Mid‐Infrared Integrated Photonics: Material Platforms and Emerging Applications

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Mid‐infrared (MIR) integrated photonics enables advanced chemical and biological sensing through the unique absorption features of molecules in the 2–20 µm range. This review highlights recent material advances such as chalcogenide glasses, silicon, and graphene and explores MIR applications in environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics ...

The Amaterasu cosmic ray as a magnetic monopole and implications for extensions of the standard model

open access: yesPhysics Letters B
The Amaterasu cosmic ray particle appears to have come from the direction of the local cosmic void. We take this as evidence that it is a magnetic monopole rather than a proton or nucleus.

Do cultural taboos regulate hunting in transitioning Indigenous communities? The case of the Idu Mishmi of Northeast India

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract There is rising recognition of resource‐use rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) within wildlife conservation. Historically, sociocultural institutions ensured wildlife sustainability in many IPLC areas. However, the future viability of such institutions is uncertain as IPLCs change in response to external pressures and ...

Estimating Interplanetary Magnetic Field Conditions at Mercury's Orbit From MESSENGER Magnetosheath Observations Using a Feedforward Neural Network

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation
Mercury's small magnetosphere is embedded in the dynamic and intense solar wind environment characteristic of the inner heliosphere. Both the magnitude and orientation of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) significantly influence the solar wind ...

Mikrometeorite und ihr Ursprung im Sonnensystem: Außerirdischer Staub zum Anfassen

open access: yesPhysik in unserer Zeit, EarlyView.

Precision Cosmic Ray physics with space-born experiment

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
More than 100 years after their discoveries, cosmic rays have been extensively studied, both with balloon experiments and with ground observatories. More recently, the possibility of mounting detectors on satellites or on the International Space Station ...
