Correlations between 21 cm Radiation and the CMB from Active Sources

open access: yes, 2010
Neutral hydrogen is ubiquitous, absorbing and emitting 21 cm radiation throughout much of the Universe's history. Active sources of perturbations, such as cosmic strings, would generate simultaneous perturbations in the distribution of neutral hydrogen ...

Radiation‐Resistant Aluminum Alloy for Space Missions in the Extreme Environment of the Solar System

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel ultrafine‐grained aluminum crossover alloy exhibits unprecedented radiation resistance and mechanical stability under extreme irradiation doses up to 100 dpa. The exceptional resilience arises from thermodynamically stable T‐phase precipitates, enabling lightweight structural materials for next‐generation spacecraft and extraterrestrial ...

Energy Radiation by Cosmic Superstrings in Brane Inflation

open access: yes, 2008
The dominant method of energy loss by a loop of cosmic D-strings in models of warped brane inflation is studied. It is shown that the energy loss via Ramond-Ramond field radiation can dominate by many orders of magnitude over the energy radiation via ...

Structural and Mechanical Dynamics of Polymer Membranes Across Multilength Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Distinct surface‐to‐bulk mechanical contrasts in polymer membranes were unveiled, highlighting the need to probe both regions to fully capture their functional behavior. By integrating in situ SAXS–WAXS with AFM‐based nanomechanics, nanodomain‐level heterogeneity and real‐time structural transformations induced by thermal and mechanical stimuli were ...

Cosmic Radiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The planet Earth orbits the Sun in what is often considered to be empty space but is in fact full of very small charged particles speeding in all directions. The situation can be compared to the Earth having to constantly travel in a light shower of rain and with the atmosphere acting like an umbrella. The 'rain' is made up of charged particles called '

Robust C–V Ratio Technique for Profiling Defects in Proton‐Irradiated 4H‐SiC

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A noise‐robust C–V ratio technique is introduced to profile radiation‐induced defects in proton‐irradiated 4H‐SiC Schottky diodes. By using analytical capacitance ratios instead of numerical differentiation, the method directly extracts trap‐density and effective trap‐energy profiles at room temperature.

A study of radiation environment in space and its biological effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Biological effects on man in space resulting from galactic and solar cosmic radiation are discussed. Importance of secondary ions which contribute to galactic cosmic radiation hazards is analyzed.

Integrating Automated Electrochemistry and High‐Throughput Characterization with Machine Learning to Explore Si─Ge─Sn Thin‐Film Lithium Battery Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 15, Issue 11, March 18, 2025.
A closed‐loop, data‐driven approach facilitates the exploration of high‐performance Si─Ge─Sn alloys as promising fast‐charging battery anodes. Autonomous electrochemical experimentation using a scanning droplet cell is combined with real‐time optimization to efficiently navigate composition space.
