Life Cycle of Cosmocerca ornata (Nematoda: Cosmocercidae), a Parasite of Amphibians
Inland Water Biology, 2021The life cycle of the nematode Cosmocerca ornata (Dujardin, 1845)—a parasite of amphibians—was studied for the first time. The experimental infection of yearlings of the marsh frog Pelophylax ridibundus infected by larvae of C. ornata was performed. The development stages of parasites in the host were studied.

Species of Cosmocerca Diesing, 1861 (Ascaridomorpha: Cosmocercoidea), are common nematode parasites of amphibians. In the present study, a new species of Cosmocerca, namely C. simile n. sp., was described using light and scanning electron microscopy, and sequencing different nuclear and mitochondrial genetic markers (i.e.

Cosmocerca ornata is a widely distributed species reported from Europe, Asia and Africa. No description of Cosmocerca ornata as such is available from India though nematodes described as Cosmocerca indica, Cosmocerca macrogubernaculum, Paracosmocerca spinocerca and Paracosmocerca indica have been synonymised with C. ornata.
