Phenomenology of transition radiation at radio frequencies from ultrahigh-energy showers

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
We explore transition radiation at MHz-GHz frequencies as a possible way to detect ultrahigh-energy (UHE) particles. We have developed a general method to calculate transition radiation that extends the well-known Zas-Halzen-Stanev (ZHS) algorithm.

Higher Dimensional Dilaton Black Holes with Cosmological Constant

open access: yes, 2004
The metric of a higher-dimensional dilaton black hole in the presence of a cosmological constant is constructed. It is found that the cosmological constant is coupled to the dilaton in a non-trivial way.

Mind and Cosmos as Throughput Systems: A Convergence Through the Throughput Model

open access: yesSystems Research and Behavioral Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper advances a conceptual and mathematical foundations approach by applying the throughput model (TPM) to cosmic phenomena, reframing the universe as an extended information processing system. TPM's four stages, Perception, Information, Judgement and Decision Choice, are reformulated in explicit information‐theoretic and dynamical ...

Landscape Predictions from Cosmological Vacuum Selection

open access: yes, 2007
In BP models with hundreds of fluxes, we compute the effects of cosmological dynamics on the probability distribution of landscape vacua. Starting from generic initial conditions, we find that most fluxes are dynamically driven into a different and much ...

Post‐Traumatic Growth in the Global South: Possibilities in Relational Ethics from Communities to Classrooms

open access: yesTESOL Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract This article reports on a qualitative study of the way instructors and students understand and respond to traumatizing events in a Sri Lankan university. It shows how the attitudes and practices in the society at large are carried over to classrooms even though local institutions do not have a programmatic trauma‐informed pedagogy.

Cosmological perturbation theory

open access: yes, 2004
This is a review on cosmological perturbation theory. After an introduction, it presents the problem of gauge transformation. Gauge invariant variables are introduced and the Einstein and conservation equations are written in terms of these variables ...

Higher-dimensional spinning black holes and effective field theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We study the scalar tidal responses of spinning higher-dimensional black holes, and their effective field theory description. After constructing the effective field theory of a spinning point particle in general dimension, we apply this theory to match ...

Quasiparticle cosmology

open access: yesPhysical Review D
We consider thermodynamics of the Universe within a quasiparticle approach where the collective dynamics of a system is governed by the thermal mass of the constituents. The spacetime dependence of this thermal mass leads to a negative contribution to the pressure and a positive contribution to the energy density, similar to the effect due to dark ...
