The Story of Cosmological Theory

Science, 1917
Blank misgivings of a creature Moving about in worlds not realized. For him, perhaps it was enough to taste the joy of living, to watch the rising and the setting of the sun, to gaze upon the mountain, the river and the restless sea, and never to ask himself the question "what is this world in which I live, and how did it come into being?" Chaos in M-theory Cosmology [PDF]

open access: possibleFortschritte der Physik, 2001
Summary: We review some recent work by \textit{T. Damour} and the author [Phys. Rev. Lett. 85, 920-923 (2000; Zbl 0978.83053)] on the chaotic behaviour of the gravitational field in the vicinity of a spacelike singularity in \(M\)-theory and superstring models. We stress in particular the rôle of the massless \(p\)-forms in this context.
