Modified Friedmann cosmologies—Theory and observations

open access: yesAnnals of Physics, 2005
We investigate a class of Cardassian scenarios of the universe evolution in notions of the qualitative theory of dynamical systems. This theory allows us to analyze all solutions for all possible initial conditions on the phase plane. In the Cardassian models we find that big-rip singularities are present as a typical behavior in the future if $n<0$.

Cheia de axé (full of axé): Spirituality, resistance, and repair in Pernambuco's Afro‐Brazilian traditional communities

open access: yesFeminist Anthropology, EarlyView.
Abstract This article explores how Afro‐Brazilian communities in Pernambuco respond to state‐led industrial development through culturally rooted practices of resistance and repair. Drawing on archival and ethnographic research in the coastal municipalities of Cabo de Santo Agostinho and Ipojuca, this study traces the effects of Brazil's large‐scale ...

Queer configurations: The female divine, regional identity, and Queer‐religious belonging in South India

open access: yesFeminist Anthropology, EarlyView.
Abstract This article explores how queerness and religion intersect in a unique enactment of Bathukamma, a flower festival honoring the female divine in Hyderabad, the capital of the South Indian state of Telangana. Drawing on theories of figuration, I analyze how local queer organizations celebrate the festival in a way that engages two distinctive ...

Anthropologist, heal thyself: Toward an anthropology of healing through relational interbeing

open access: yesFeminist Anthropology, EarlyView.
Abstract I call for an anthropology that confronts its own woundedness. Anthropologists often bear witness to suffering but rarely examine how our own grief, trauma, and institutional distress shape the affective tone of our work. Drawing on fieldwork with Runa (Quechua) women affected by forced sterilization in Peru and guided by my collaborator and ...

Manifestly unitary cosmological perturbation theory

open access: yesJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2023
Abstract The next decade will feature an abundance of novel cosmological data, while many fundamental questions about inflation remain. Given this, there is ample need for maximally efficient calculations, especially in non-standard scenarios for the early Universe. In inflationary cosmology, observables are computed within the framework

Growing Pre‐Service Teachers' Well‐Being Capacity: Comparing the Perspectives of Teacher Education Programme Administrators and Teacher Candidates Across Canada

open access: yesFuture in Educational Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recognising the importance of addressing teacher development in the early career stages, our study examined programmatic considerations within teacher education programmes in Canada to determine the extent to which teacher preparation included support for and promotion of teacher well‐being as part of their pre‐service teaching development ...

Cosmological Relativity: A New Theory of Cosmology

open access: yes, 2000
A general-relativistic theory of cosmology, the dynamical variables of which are those of Hubble's, namely distances and redshifts, is presented. The theory describes the universe as having a three-phase evolution with a decelerating expansion followed by a constant and an accelerating expansion, and it predicts that the universe is now in the latter ...

Spiritual Cannibalism in HRD: How Workplace Spirituality Devours Sacred Traditions

open access: yesHuman Resource Development Quarterly, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper interrogates how the discourse of workplace spirituality in human resource development (HRD) operates as a tool of colonization. Through a systematic review of 48 articles published between 1997 and March 2025, the study uncovers recurring patterns of spiritual appropriation in which non‐Western traditions are detached from their ...

Caste as a Social Kind

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gender and race have received significant philosophical attention recently; they are the paradigm cases of social kinds in most philosophical accounts. I argue for the inclusion of caste as a social kind because it affects the lives of many people, and because it presents itself as an important test case for philosophers of social kinds.
