I review in these lectures our present understanding of the origin and evolution of the universe, making emphasis on the most recent observations of the acceleration of the universe, the precise measurements of the microwave background anisotropies, and ...

Testing general relativity in cosmology [PDF]
We review recent developments and results in testing general relativity (GR) at cosmological scales. The subject has witnessed rapid growth during the last two decades with the aim of addressing the question of cosmic acceleration and the dark energy ...

In Brans–Dicke gravitational theory, an analytical accelerating expansion solution of the Universe is found at the dilaton dominated epoch. Both Einstein frame (EF) and Jordan frame (JF) are applied. We consider the form of exponential potential of dilaton field in EF while we consider the power law potential in JF.

Hindu cosmology has to do also with cosmogony and with cosmography. Within the context of Hindu cosmology, it is not easy to mark a definite border between physical, religious or mythological, and philosophical cosmology. The best way to distinguish different topics within this conceptual area is to refer to their different sources, mainly the four ...

In this work, we review recent work on string cosmology. The need for an inflationary era is well known. Problems of Standard Cosmology such as horizon, flatness, monopole and entropy find an elegant solution in the inflationary scenario. On the other hand no adequate inflationary model has been constructed so far.

Abstract This chapter presents the application of quantum gravity to the Universe as a whole. The concept of minisuperspace is introduced and discussed. Various solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation are found and discussed. Structure formation is discussed as well as boundary conditions and singularity avoidance.
