Antioxidative and Antigenotoxic Activity of Extracts from Cosmos (Cosmos bipinnatus) Flowers

Plant Foods for Human Nutrition, 2008
The Cosmos bipinnatus has been used in a traditional herbal remedy for various diseases such as jaundice, intermittent fever, and splenomegaly. The present study describes the preliminary evaluation of antioxidant activities and antigenotoxic effect of Cosmos bipinnatus flowers according to four different colors (white, pink, orange, and violet).

Exploring the Cr(VI) Phytoremediation Potential of Cosmos bipinnatus

Water, Air, & Soil Pollution, 2014
Seedlings of Cosmos bipinnatus were cultured in vitro for 30 days on modified Murashige–Skoog medium supplemented with four different concentrations of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI); 0.0–2.0 mM). Seed germination occurred after 7 days of culture, but was significantly lower when cultured in 2.0 mM Cr(VI) than when cultured without Cr(VI) in the medium ...

Effect of Chromium Stress on Metal Accumulation and Cell Wall Fractions in Cosmos Bipinnatus

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2022
As one of the major pollutants in the environment, chromium (Cr), a heavy metal, poses a serious threat to urban green spaces and human life and health. Cosmos bipinnatus is considered a potential accumulator of Cr, and the differences in cellular Cr distribution and compartmentalization may uncover the mechanisms involved in its tolerance to Cr.

Resource Allocation in Sequentially Flowering Cosmos bipinnatus

American Midland Naturalist, 1995
-Sequential flowering may be a mechanism for diverting resources to later developing seeds in a plant if early seed predation occurs. I investigated infructescence and seed production experimentally in the annual, Cosmos bipinnatus (Compositae) testing the hypothesis that this annual would respond to predation by producing more infructescences ...

First report of bacterial leaf blight on cosmos (Cosmos bipinnatus Cav.) caused by Pseudomonas cichorii in Japan

Journal of General Plant Pathology, 2014
Since 2006, a commercial grower in Japan has noted a leaf blight symptom on potted cosmos plants grown in a field. In August 2012, a Pseudomonas-like bacterium was isolated from the symptomatic leaves and found to cause the same symptom on cosmos seedlings after inoculation.
