THE COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF REDUCED WEAR BANDSAWS

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Industrial Engineering, 2020
The objective of this work was to analyse the cost and the benefit of extending the useful life of bandsaws by improving their wear resistance in a parawood saw mill. Changeover of worn bandsaw causes downtime 15 minutes.

NanoCMSer: a consensus molecular subtype stratification tool for fresh‐frozen and paraffin‐embedded colorectal cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Consensus molecular subtypes (CMS1‐4) have been identified to study colorectal cancer heterogeneity and serve as potential biomarkers. In this study, we developed and evaluated NanoCMSer, a NanoString‐based classifier using 55 genes, optimized for FF and FFPE to facilitate the clinical evaluation of CMS subtyping.

Principal Moment Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Principal Moment Analysis is a method designed for dimension reduction, analysis and visualization of high dimensional multivariate data. It generalizes Principal Component Analysis and allows for significant statistical modeling flexibility, when approximating an unknown underlying probability distribution, by enabling direct analysis of general ...

Addressing persistent challenges in digital image analysis of cancer tissue: resources developed from a hackathon

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

Robust acute myeloid leukemia engraftment in humanized scaffolds using injectable biomaterials and intravenous xenotransplantation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived xenografts (PDXs) can be improved by implantation of a humanized niche. We tested different biomaterials and approaches, and demonstrate that the combination of an injectable biomaterial for scaffold creation plus an intravenous route for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) xenotransplantation provide the most convenient and robust approach to

Reviewing estimates of the economic efficiency of disaster risk management: opportunities and limitations of using risk-based cost–benefit analysis

open access: yesNatural Hazards, 2016
There is a lot of rhetoric suggesting that disaster risk reduction (DRR) pays, yet surprisingly little in the way of hard facts. This review paper examines the evidence regarding the economic efficiency of DRM based on CBA. Specifically, it addresses the
