A mathematical model and an optimal solution for offsetting greenhouse gases using native species from the Brazilian Cerrado vegetation

open access: yesCadernos Cajuína
The intensification of global warming, driven by anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, necessitates the implementation of efficient carbon offsetting strategies.

Prophet Inequalities for Cost Minimization

open access: yes, 2022
Prophet inequalities for rewards maximization are fundamental to optimal stopping theory with extensive applications to mechanism design and online optimization. We study the \emph{cost minimization} counterpart of the classical prophet inequality: a decision maker is facing a sequence of costs $X_1, X_2, \dots, X_n$ drawn from known distributions in ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

On the Meaning of the Preponderance Test in Judicial Regulation of Chemical Hazard [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
As usually defined, the preponderance test is a standard of proof which directs the jury to accept the plaintiff's version of the disputed facts if they are more probably true than not.

Cis‐regulatory and long noncoding RNA alterations in breast cancer – current insights, biomarker utility, and the critical need for functional validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

On the uniqueness of the solution of the cost minimization problem with generalized Sato production function

open access: yesCroatian Operational Research Review, 2021
Whenever a firm is maximizing its profit, it necessarily has to minimize its cost. Thus, the cost minimization problem is one of the central problems in the theory of the firm.

Bandwidth Cost Minimization via User Association for Enterprise WLANs

open access: yesSensors, 2018
Enterprise Wireless LANs (E-WLANs) such as airport WiFi, have become a convenient way for Internet access for mobile users. In an E-WLAN, access points (APs) are usually deployed with high-density around the infrastructure to provide sufficient coverage ...

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.
