Profiling neoadjuvant therapy response in rectal cancer using meta‐analysis of publicly available transcriptomic RNA‐seq datasets

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates publicly available transcriptomic datasets to identify molecular signatures associated with response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer. By analyzing a combination of multiple cohorts with bioinformatics approaches, we reveal biological pathways and immune‐related features that may improve ...

Learning to share nicely: Leveraging the Nobel Prize-winning Shapley value to enhance collaboration and cooperation in healthcare systems

open access: yesFuture Healthcare Journal
Healthcare systems are facing mounting financial pressures, often intensified by structural fragmentation that fosters ʻself-serving profit centres’, fuels a ʻmedical arms race’, and leads to a ʻtragedy of the commons’. As these systems shift toward more

Paclitaxel induces NM2‐dependent cellular contraction through GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and RhoA/ROCK activation in cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Taxanes are widely used chemotherapeutics whose effects on cellular mechanics remain poorly understood. We show that paclitaxel induces rapid cellular contraction by promoting GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and non‐muscle myosin II activation through RhoA/ROCK.

The effect of cost-sharing design characteristics on use of health care recommended by the treating physician; a discrete choice experiment

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2018
Background Cost-sharing programs are often too complex to be easily understood by the average insured individual. Consequently, it is often difficult to determine the amount of expenses in advance.

From patient advocacy to patient‐driven research: Building active partnerships beginning at the bench to reach the bedside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Research is strongest when conducted alongside patients, not just about them. Patient research organizations help integrate patient perspectives into research priorities, study design, and scientific meetings, leading to meaningful patient outcomes and development of relevant therapies.
