Cost Minimization Analysis of a Store-and-Forward Teledermatology Consult System [PDF]

open access: yesTelemedicine and e-Health, 2009
The aim of this study was to perform a cost minimization analysis of store-and-forward teledermatology compared to a conventional dermatology referral process (usual care). In a Department of Defense (DoD) setting, subjects were randomized to either a teledermatology consult or usual care.

Impact of bulk density assignment of bone on MRI‐based abdominal region radiotherapy planning for MR‐linac workflow

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the impact of bone relative electron density (rED) assignment on radiotherapy planning for the abdominal region. Methods Twenty patients who received abdominal radiotherapy using MR‐Linac and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) simulation were analyzed.

Cost-effectiveness analysis in minimally invasive spine surgery

open access: yesNeurosurgical Focus, 2014
Object Medical care has been evolving with the increased influence of a value-based health care system. As a result, more emphasis is being placed on ensuring cost-effectiveness and utility in the services provided to patients. This study looks at this development in respect to minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) costs.

Quantification and dosimetric impact of intra‐fractional bladder changes during CBCT‐guided online adaptive radiotherapy for pelvic cancer treatments

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study quantitatively evaluates bladder changes and their dosimetric impact during the on‐couch adaptive process on a commercial CBCT‐based online adaptive radiotherapy (CT‐gART) platform. Methods Data from 183 fractions of ten patients receiving online ART for pelvic cancers were analyzed retrospectively.

Cost-Sensitive Support Vector Machines [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
A new procedure for learning cost-sensitive SVM(CS-SVM) classifiers is proposed. The SVM hinge loss is extended to the cost sensitive setting, and the CS-SVM is derived as the minimizer of the associated risk. The extension of the hinge loss draws on recent connections between risk minimization and probability elicitation.

Semi‐automated hippocampal avoidance whole‐brain radiotherapy planning

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Hippocampal avoidance whole‐brain radiotherapy (HA‐WBRT) is designed to spare cognitive function by reducing radiation dose to the hippocampus during the treatment of brain metastases. Current manual planning methods can be time‐consuming and may vary in quality, necessitating the development of automated approaches to streamline ...
