COSTAL CARTILAGE HOMOGRAFTS PRESERVED BY RADIATION
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1961Use of preserved cartilage homografts in restoring contour to defects of the supporting structures of the face is described and illustrated. Adequate sterilization of contaminated cartilage is effected by Co/sup 60/ gamma irradiation for 15 hr using 3,000,000 rep. The cartilage is then stored in saline at room temperature.

Cartilage grafts are used for many purposes. In assessing the defect to be filled with costal cartilage, some factors must be taken into account. The length of the defect can extend up to 6–7 cm; a larger defect would require multiple grafts or bone grafts (usually vascularized).

Reconstruction with Irradiated Homograft Costal Cartilage
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2003The authors present their experience with 51 patients who underwent 55 reconstructive and cosmetic operative procedures with irradiated homograft costal cartilage, who were studied between August of 1988 and June of 2001. The procedures included 52 rhinoplasties and three penile implantations among a total of 130 grafts.

Scutumplasty: costal cartilage versus bone paté
Auris Nasus Larynx, 1998This study was carried out to evaluate the anatomical and hearing results of the reparation of attic defects in closed tympanoplasty. Reparation was carried out in 194 patients by using a costal cartilage allograft, and in 159 patients with a bone pate autograft. The follow-up was from 1 to 5 years.

Costal Cartilage Grafts in Rhinoplasty
Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 2016Cartilage grafts are regularly used in rhinoplasty. Septal and auricular donor sites are commonly used. Many situations compel the surgeon to use other alternative donor sites, including revision rhinoplasty and trauma. Many patients have a small amount of native septal cartilage and are unable to provide adequate septal cartilage to be used for ...

Transumbilical Endoscopic Costal Cartilage Harvesting
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 2014The quality and quantity of costal cartilage allow for versatile and stable cartilage supply for various nasal deformities, but the apparent scar on the chest wall can be a major concern in cosmetic surgery of Asians. The authors describe a new method for harvesting costal cartilage by transumbilical endoscopic approach to avoid any scar on the chest ...

Costal Cartilage and Costal Perichondrium Sandwich Graft in Septal Perforation Repair
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2020Background: Repair of the septal perforation is a challenging procedure and there are many different surgical techniques. In this study, the authors present a novel method which the authors use costal cartilage and costal perichondrium sandwich graft as an interposition graft with bilateral opposing mucoperichondrial flaps.

Outcomes Following Rhinoplasty Using Autologous Costal Cartilage
Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, 2012To describe the aesthetic and clinical outcomes following rhinoplasty using autologous costal cartilage, which is considered the best graft material for rhinoplasty requiring major reconstruction. Few studies have examined outcomes following rhinoplasty using autologous costal cartilage.A retrospective review of the data from 108 patients who underwent
