Condensed tannin and gossypol concentrations in cottonseed and in processed cottonseed meal
Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1993AbstractExperimental varieties of cottonseed and of industrial cottonseed meal (CSM) were analysed for extractable and bound condensed tannin (CT) and free gossypol. CT was present in the hulls of all varieties, with higher concentrations recorded for high tannin and glandless selections (55 and 58 g kg−1 DM) than for the multiple host plant resistant ...

Oil fixation in cottonseed meals
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1965AbstractA fraction of the lipid material in cottonseed is fixed in the meal during processing in an oil mill and cannot be extracted with petroleum ether. This relatively unknown and unrecognized 舠fixed oil舡 fraction may vary in quantity in different meals.

Premature farrowings caused by feeding cottonseed meal
Australian Veterinary Journal, 1990SUMMARY Increasing the level of cottonseed meal (CSM) in sow diets from <5% to 10% increased the incidence of premature farrowings (gestation length < 111 days) from 1.1 % to 2.7% (p< 0.001) and reduced the mean gestation length from 114.07 ± 1.53 to 113.70 ± 1.59 days (p< 0.0001). Survival of piglets born prematurely was poor.

Chemical inactivation of aflatoxins in peanut and cottonseed meals
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1970AbstractOrganic and inorganic reagents have been tested for destruction or inactivation of the aflatoxins present in peanut and cottonseed meals. The treatments were made in a special laboratory‐scale reactor, and were evaluated by determination of the aflatoxins in the products by thin layer chromatography.

Spectrophotometric determination of total gossypol in cottonseed meal and cottonseed meats
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1958SummaryAn improved method has been developed for the determination of total gossypol in cottonseed and cottonseed meal. The sample is heated with aniline to convert the gossypol to dianilinogossypol, which is extracted with chloroform and measured spectrophotometrically. The values for total gossypol are slightly higher and more accurate and precise as
