Paradoxical transitions to instabilities in hydromagnetic Couette-Taylor flows [PDF]
By methods of modern spectral analysis, we rigorously find distributions of eigenvalues of linearized operators associated with an ideal hydromagnetic Couette-Taylor flow. Transition to instability in the limit of vanishing magnetic field has a discontinuous change compared to the Rayleigh stability criterion for hydrodynamical flows, which is known as

Mechanism of Vortices Appearance in the Taylor-Couette Flow System [PDF]
This work is devoted to study the Taylor-Couette flow at the early structuring stages. It is aimed to gain insight on the Taylor and Ekman vortices genesis mechanism since the first hints of presence detected at Ta=10-4. Simulations are carried out using

Experiments on the Couette-Taylor flow with an Axial Flow
Couette-Taylor flow between cylinders with a superimposed axial flow is studied experimentally. The axial flow suppresses the basic stationary instability and gives rise to travelling waves in the form of propagating Taylor Vortices (TV) at low through flow velocity (Re 1 patterns in the form of TV with modulated amplitude exist below this line.

Numerical Study of the Effect of a Power-law Fluid Flow Structures on Levels of Mixing in a Taylor Couette Configuration [PDF]
This work is a numerical study on the effects of the flow structures of the power-law fluid between two concentric cylinders with an upward laminar axial flow on levels of mixing and mean residence time through the Taylor Couette system.

PIV Investigation of Couette-Taylor Flows With Axial Flows [PDF]
The Couette Taylor flows CTF strongly depend on geometrical characteristics of CT systems radio and aspect ratios. The superposition of axial flow may accentuate this dependence. Previous studies carried with relatively small radial and/or aspect ratios [1–3] or relatively low Taylor numbers (or rotational Reynolds number ReΩ) and/or low axial flux ...

Hydrodynamic education with rheoscopic fluid [PDF]
We present a educational poster supporting the subject „Mechanics of fluids I“, which the students evaluate to be difficult mainly due to abstractness. Our goal is to show in vivo the behavior, especially the non-linearity, of various flows transiting into

The behaviour of Couette-Taylor flow in an azimuthal plane [PDF]
We investigated the behaviour of Couette-Taylor flow in an azimuthal cross section by flow visualization using Kalliroscope flakes, and by image analysis of the obtained movie. Kalliroscope flakes are platelet and can make shear flow visible. Wavy vortex flow mode (WVF) in which an azimuthal wave mode superposes Taylor vortex flow mode (TVF) was ...

Direct numerical simulations of turbulent Taylor-Couette flows are performed to investigate the effect of a traveling wave control on torque and heat transfer. In the Taylor-Couette flow, inner and outer cylinders are rotating and immobile, respectively,
