Semi‐analytical solution for the stability of deep vertical shaft considering time‐dependent rock‐structure interaction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A novel cavity contraction solution and multilayer shaft wall model were developed to analyze deep shaft stability, considering rock viscosity, support structures, and water pressure, with successful validation through a Hulusu Coal Mine case study.

Determination of the Shear Strength Through the Triaxial Test Using MTS

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2018
In order to determine the shear strength of rock joint, the triaxial tests for specimens with irregular and unfilled rock joints were conducted using the rock mechanics test system (MTS815).A series of maximum axial failure stresses under different ...

Stability analysis of vertical boreholes using the Mogi-Coulomb failure criterion

open access: yes, 2006
A main aspect of wellbore stability analysis is the selection of an appropriate rock failure criterion. The most commonly used criterion for brittle failure of rocks is the Mohr-Coulomb criterion.

Instability mechanism and failure characteristics of underground cavern in block system under the action of seismic waves

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Seismic waves with tensile stress, high amplitude, and low frequency are most likely to trigger block instability and sliding. Blocks with a single sliding surface are more prone to movement than those with multiple constraints, and roof‐positioned blocks are especially vulnerable to slide.

Modeling and experimental validation of bolt–grout bond–slip behavior for deep underground excavation support

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A novel shear‐lag model, validated by pull‐out tests, incorporates a constant bond stress stage to predict the complete load–displacement response of grouted rock bolts, providing a new tool for optimizing anchorage length and material toughness in deep underground engineering. Abstract The stability of rock masses in deep underground excavations, such

Thermoporoelastic stress perturbations from hydraulic fracturing and thermal depletion in enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) and implications for fault reactivation and seismicity

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
Hydraulic fracturing then fluid circulation in enhanced geothermal system (EGS) reservoirs have been shown to induce seismicity remote from the stimulation – potentially generated by the distal projection of thermoporoelastic stresses.

Analytical stress solution framework for lined compressed air energy storage chambers and its application to safe burial depth determination and supporting effectiveness evaluation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
An analytical framework delivers a closed‐form stress solution for lined compressed air energy storage chambers, enabling the determination of the minimum safe burial depth. The solution quantitatively evaluates lining support effectiveness, offering a reliable tool for chamber design and optimization.

Coulomb stressing rate changes and seismicity dynamics associated with slow slip events in south-central Alaska

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics
Two long-term slow slip events (SSEs) in Lower Cook Inlet, Alaska, were identified by Li SS et al. (2016). The earlier SSE lasted at least 9 years with Mw ~7.8 and had an average slip rate of ~82 mm/year.

Upper bound limit analysis of coral reef limestone cavern roof stability incorporating a tension‐shear failure mechanism with tensile‐strength cut‐off

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
For the roof of coral reef limestone caverns, a novel tension‐shear composite failure mechanism was developed. The most critical tensile crack model was identified using a hybrid optimization algorithm, and the stability of the cavern roof was analyzed accordingly.
