CONSIDERATIONS RELATING TO THE ROLE OF THE COUNCIL IN THE INSTITUTIONAL UNION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION [PDF]

open access: yesChallenges of the Knowledge Society, 2019
As a part of what the specialized doctrine calls the “bicameral legislative of the European Union”, the Council, representing the Member States, is undoubtedly one of the most important decision-making institutions in the EU.

Printed Integrated Logic Circuits Based on Chitosan‐Gated Organic Transistors for Future Edible Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Edible electronics needs integrated logic circuits for computation and control. This work presents a potentially edible printed chitosan‐gated transistor with a design optimized for integration in circuits. Its implementation in integrated logic gates and circuits operating at low voltage (0.7 V) is demonstrated, as well as the compatibility with an ...

Combinatorial Synthesis of Next Generation Water‐Soluble Quaternized N‐Halamine Oligomers with Long‐Lasting Antiviral Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A combinatorial library of dual‐functional antiviral oligomers incorporating N‐halamine and quaternary ammonium functionalities is developed for long‐lasting antiviral activity. The lead materials exhibit rapid and durable antiviral activity against SARS‐CoV‐2 variants and influenza H1N1, with 4 to 5 log reduction in viral copies at 5 mg mL−1 ...

Subsidiarity v. Pan-europeanism: LGBTQ and Transgender Rights in the EU and under the European Convention of Human Rights

open access: yesBulletin of the Transilvania University of Braşov: Series VII: Social Sciences, Law
The European Union and the Council of Europe were supposed to create continent-wide standards and rules for governance, commerce, and human rights. Yet subsidiarity remains an important principle respecting state-specific policy.

Connected Coalition Formation and Voting Power in the Council of the European Union: An Endogenous Policy Approach. EIPA Working Paper 99/W/05 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Resorting to political economy approaches, this paper attempts to associate the industrial structure in the European Union (EU) to the coalition formation process between European member states.

Wavelength‐Dependent Differential Amplification of Raman Scattering by Chiral Gold Nanorods for Multiplexed Encoding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The SERS spectra of reporter molecules adsorbed on chiral gold nanorods depends on the handedness of circularly polarized light (CPL‐SERS). The bisignate plasmonic CD spectra of chiral nanorods provides wavelength‐dependent CPL‐SERS. Selective discrimination of chiral nanorod handedness and different Raman reporters allow highly sensitive codification ...

The European Arrest Warrant - Optional Reasons for Refusing its Execution. Case Law Aspects

open access: yesBulletin of the Transilvania University of Braşov: Series VII: Social Sciences, Law
This paper aims to bring to attention certain optional reasons for refusing the execution of a European arrest warrant, situations in which the courts can defeat the principle of mutual recognition and trust between the judicial authorities of the ...

Patterning the Void: Combining L‐Systems with Archimedean Tessellations as a Perspective for Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel multi‐scale scaffold design using L‐fractals arranged in Archimedean tessellations for tissue regeneration. Despite similar porosity, tiles display vastly different tensile responses (1–100 MPa) and deformation modes. In vitro experiments with hMSCs show geometry‐dependent growth and activity. Over 55 000 tile combinations

Entre um Novo Tratado e uma Nova Cimeira Social Comparação das Prioridades das Presidências Portuguesas do Conselho da UE de 2007 e 2021 | Between a New Treaty and a New Social Summit Comparison of the Priorities of the Portuguese Presidencies of the CEU

open access: yesPolitical Observer
Since the beginning of the process of European construction, the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) has been an important exercise for the country that performs it, especially for smaller ones like Portugal.
