The pilot ratio is a critical parameter of the hydraulic system containing counterbalance valves, which has an important influence on the dynamic characteristics and energy consumption. Generally, these two aspects are contradictory. That is, a high pilot ratio is easy to cause the poor dynamic characteristics of the system, while a low pilot ratio ...

Sliding Mode Analysis of a Counterbalance Valve Induced Instability in an Electrohydraulic Drive
Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control, Transactions of the ASME, 2022Abstract This paper analyzes the dynamic effects of an electrohydraulic drive that uses a counterbalance valve for rod volume compensation. It shows that local stability analysis is not sufficient in this particular case to get general statements of the system's chattering properties.

Simulation Analysis of the Counterbalance Valve Used in Cranes Based on AMESim Software
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012This paper presents the structure and working principle of counterbalance valve used in some hydraulic cranes. Based on the AMESim software, the model of the counterbalance valve is build, and the simulation analysis for its performances is done. The simulation results show that the valve has a good dynamic response performance and stability, its ...

Energetic and dynamic impact of counterbalance valves in fluid power machines
Energy Conversion and Management, 2013Abstract Counterbalance valves negatively affect the dynamical behavior of most of the hydraulic systems in which they are utilized, and they introduce additional energy consumption. Various valve architectures have been developed to address the dynamical issues related to the use of these components, and empirical guidelines are also available to ...

Influence of counterbalance valve parameters on stability of the crane lifting system
2010 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation, 2010In this paper, a model of the large crane lifting system has been developed in the AMESim environment. The comparison between the simulation results and the experimental data shows good agreement in both time and frequency domains, indicating the correctness of the model.

Numerical simulation and animation of oscillating turbulent flow in a counterbalance valve
IECEC-97 Proceedings of the Thirty-Second Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference (Cat. No.97CH6203), 1997This paper reports the results of numerical simulation of oscillating flow in the complex flow passage of a hydraulic counterbalance valve. A counterbalance valve, when correctly applied to a hydraulic circuit, modulates the flow of oil when lowering a load, with a crane for example, to prevent an overrunning condition.

International Journal of Fluid Power, 2016
In this paper, a novel concept for stabilising a hydraulic system containing a counterbalance valve and a pressure compensated flow supply is presented. The concept utilizes a secondary circuit where a low-pass filtered value of the load pressure is generated and fed back to the compensator of the flow supply valve.

Stability Analysis of a Pilot Operated Counterbalance Valve for a Big Flow Rate
ASME/BATH 2014 Symposium on Fluid Power and Motion Control, 2014Counterbalance valves are widely used in hydraulic deck machinery to balance the overrunning loads. However, as is well known, counterbalance circuit designed with poor choice of counterbalance valve tends to introduce instability to the system. This paper investigates the dynamic behavior of a pilot operated counterbalance valve which can operate at a
