Efficiency of Counting Systems

Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1948
A review is made of the derivation of formulae for the efficiency of counting systems, comprising in the general case a counter and amplifier, a scaling circuit and a recorder. In the case of recorders of constant resolving time no complete formula has been found in the literature, and this has been derived.

Photomultiplier Single Photon Counting Efficiency

Applied Optics, 1973
An RCA C31000F (8853) photomultiplier with a cathode quantum efficiency of 5.5% (for 633-nm light) was found to have a single photon counting efficiency of only 3.3%. The difference is shown to be due to small pulses well below the single electron peak in the output pulse height spectrum. These pulses are usually below the discriminator threshold level

Annotation-Efficient Cell Counting

2021
Recent advances in deep learning have achieved impressive results on microscopy cell counting tasks. The success of deep learning models usually needs sufficient training data with manual annotations, which can be time-consuming and costly. In this paper, we propose an annotation-efficient cell counting approach which injects cell counting networks ...
