Estimating pore fluid pressure-stress coupling

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2016
Abstract Fracture Pressure (FP) prediction is a vital component in well planning for safe drilling in high pressure areas, in the estimation of seal capacity and seal breach risk analysis, for fluid injection and in fracture stimulation for oil/gas recovery from tight reservoirs and mature source rocks. Coupling of pore fluid pressure (PP) and FP at

Couple Stresses in Fluids

The Physics of Fluids, 1967
Applications of couple stress and micropolar theories to the problems of Couette and Poiseuille flows between two parallel plates are discussed and the results are compared.

On Diffusion of Vorticity in Couple Stress Fluid

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1988
The objective of the present paper is to examine the influence of polar effects on the diffusion of vorticity in couple stress fluids represented by Stokes' constitutive equations. In particular, the diffusion of a line vortex filament, the flow in a double array of vortices and the flow in the wake behind a two-dimensional grid are studied.

Couple-stresses in peristaltic transport of fluids

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1994
Summary: Peristaltic pumping by a sinusoidal traveling wave in the walls of a two- dimensional channel field with a viscous incompressible couple-stress fluid is investigated. A perturbation solution is obtained which satisfies the momentum equation for the case in which the amplitude ratio (wave amplitude/channel half width) is small. The results show

Porous slider bearing with couple stress fluid

Acta Mechanica, 1990
Theoretical study of porous slider bearing with couple stress fluid as lubricant is made and the lubrication qualities of couple stress fluid are examined. The lower surface is covered by a thin porous material and the upper one, having arbitrary shape, moves in its own plane with constant velocity.

Drag in couple stress fluids

Zeitschrift für angewandte Mathematik und Physik ZAMP, 1978
A general expression is derived for the drag experienced by an axially symmetric body in the slow steady flow of Stokes' couple stress fluids. The result is compared with that obtained for micropolar fluids and then applied to the particular case of flow past a sphere.

Dynamics of a Couple‐Stress Fluid Membrane

Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1984
This work concerns the dynamics of a two‐dimensional (surface) fluid membrane which resists bending in a manner reminiscent of elastic shells. Such bending stiffness can arise from the molecular structure of the membrane, the molecules being treated as “directors” oriented normal to the surface.

Couple Stresses in Fluids

The Physics of Fluids, 1966
The effects of couple stresses in fluids are considered. Linearized constitutive equations are proposed for force and couple stresses. A series of boundary-value problems are solved to indicate the effects of couple stresses as well as for experiments measuring the various material constants. It is found that a size effect comes in which is not present
