Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

A granular thermodynamic framework-based coupled multiphase-substance flow model considering temperature driving effect

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
Based on the energy dissipation caused by consolidation deformation of the porous media under external force and migration of the internal suspended substances, a coupled multiphase-substance flow (CMF) model was established.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Robust Error Analysis of Coupled Mixed Methods for Biot’s Consolidation Model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Scientific Computing, 2016
We study the a priori error analysis of finite element methods for Biot's consolidation model. We consider a formulation which has the stress tensor, the fluid flux, the solid displacement, and the pore pressure as unknowns. Two mixed finite elements, one for linear elasticity and the other for mixed Poisson problems are coupled for spatial ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Corrugated composites: production-integrated quality assurance in carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic sine wave beam production

open access: yesAdvanced Manufacturing: Polymer & Composites Science, 2017
Carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastics offer the possibility for short lead times and dustless assembly in aerospace applications. However, their great potential for efficient processing to date is not entirely exploited.
