A model for coupled heat and moisture transfer during soil freezing

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1978
The objective of this report is to present simulation analyses of heat and water flow during soil freezing. The analyses utilize a modified form of a model presented by Harlan. The model is tested by using experimental data reported by Dirksen and Miller and Jame and Norum. The basic elements of the model are the heat and water flow equations.

Fully coupled analysis of heat, moisture, and air transfer in unsaturated soil

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1995
This paper presents a new theoretical formulation of coupled heat, moisture, and air transfer in unsaturated soil. A mechanistic approach is adopted that extends a previous potential-based formulation of coupled heat and moisture/air transfer and coupled heat/moisture transfer at constant pressure. Excellent correlation was achieved.

Modeling of Coupled Heat-Moisture Transfer and Deformation Behavior of Frozen Soil

Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, 2018
In this paper, the momentum equilibrium equation, the continuity equation, and the energy equation for the coupled heat and moisture transfer-deformation model are improved for frozen soil conditions through the introduction of the Clapeyron equation to describe moisture migration in a freezing zone under a temperature gradient.

Building Energy Performance Investigation Based on Heat and Moisture Coupled Transfer

2012 Second International Conference on Intelligent System Design and Engineering Application, 2012
The moisture movement and heat transfer are highly coupled within building materials. The correct evaluation of these phenomena is important for accurately predicting the heat and moisture flows for thermal performance and building energy consumption analysis.

Coupled soil moisture, heat and water vapour transfers under simulated fire conditions

Australian Journal of Soil Research, 1976
An approximate numerical method is presented coupling the transfer of water, heat and water vapour in a soil. The system is used to predict in time, soil temperature profiles under simulated surface fire conditions. Moisture profiles, ground heat flux and soil evaporation are also calculated. An experiment using a tube of moist sand heated by a radiant

Numerical Simulation of Coupled Heat and Moisture Transfer in Porous Building Material

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Building envelope is a typical porous medium. The internal accumulation of moisture will not only affect the structural strength, but also cause the growth of bacterial in the structure, which can seriously affect the indoor air quality. In this work, the modified Luikov coupled heat and moisture transfer equation is derived by using finite difference ...

Finite-Element Analysis of Coupled Nonlinear Heat and Moisture Transfer in Wood

Numerical Heat Transfer, Part A: Applications, 2006
A nonlinear model for analysing heat and moisture flow in wood during drying below the fiber saturation point is presented. The model used considers wood at a macro level without taking the various moisture transports mechanisms at the microscopic level into account.

A new coupled heat, moisture and air transfer model in unsaturated soil

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2012
After a spacious research and consideration on various approaches of thermal coupled formulations in porous media, a new mathematical form of coupled heat, moisture, and air transfer in unsaturated soil is proposed upon taking the effect of combined volumetric moisture content and temperature gradients and air pressure changes.

Coupled heat and moisture transfer in building material with freezing and thawing process

Journal of Building Engineering, 2018
Abstract A mathematical model is proposed for coupled heat and moisture transfer in building material with freezing and thawing process in this paper. The temperature gradient and the water content gradient in the material are used as the driving potentials of the transport process.
