Evaluation of coupled inductor Voltage Regulators

2008 Twenty-Third Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, 2008
Usually for a CPU voltage regulator (VR), there are several different coupled inductor VR setups to improve the CPU VR performance. For example, there are three different coupled inductor VR setups for a 6 phase CPU VR: 3*2 phase coupled inductor VR, 2*3 phase coupled inductor VR and 1*6 phase coupled inductor VR.

New coupled-inductors current-doubler topology

IEEE 34th Annual Conference on Power Electronics Specialist, 2003. PESC '03., 2003
Point-of-load DC-DC converters for current and next generation of ICs for communication systems and microprocessors are increasingly becoming stricter than ever. This is due to the required tight dynamic tolerances allowed for supply voltages and high dynamic performance demand coupled with very high power density.

Coupling inductor models for EMI filters

2009 35th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics, 2009
This paper analyzes the electrical parameters of differential-mode (DM) and common-mode (CM) inductors used in EMI filters. To design an EMI filter, it is necessary to identify the various parameters of the passive elements: inductors and capacitors. Because of their major impact on filter efficiency, these elements must be identified with accuracy. In

Coupled Inductors Analysis with Saturation and Thermal Effects

2020 27th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (ICECS), 2020
This paper discusses the analysis of Coupled Inductors (CIs) in Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPSs), with saturation and thermal effects. A Single-Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) topology is considered as a case study and a numerical procedure is proposed to reliably evaluate the CI windings current waveforms, including the effects of the real ...

DC chopper with coupled-inductor commutation

International Journal of Electronics, 1984
A novel coupled-inductor commutation circuit is described. The circuit may also be used for inverters. It uses only two auxiliary thyristors, each operating in alternate cycles and eliminating the need for reversal of the commutating capacitor voltage. Trapped energy is fed back to the source.

Coupled Inductors and their Applications

2019 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE, 2019
This article describes the topic of coupled inductors and their EMC advantages when used in switching power supplies. It is explained how a coupled inductor works, which advantages and disadvantages it has and how it can be applied in principle. Furthermore, various DC-DC converter topologies with coupled inductors are explained and a practical example

Switched-coupled inductor DC-DC converters

2018 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Electronics for Sustainable Energy Systems (IESES), 2018
In this paper, a family of high efficiency high step-up dc-dc converter is presented, which inherits all advantages of both switched-inductor dc-dc converter and coupled-inductor dc-dc converter. The proposed converters can achieve high step-up capability with the proper duty cycle D (high or small D leads to the bad efficiency), obtain soft-switching ...

Modeling of mutual coupling between inductors

2015 IEEE Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility and Signal Integrity, 2015
This paper is devoted to EMI filter inductor modeling and mutual coupling modeling between two inductors positioned on PCB. 3D inductor models are developed and modeled in CST MWS. Comparison of inductors mutual coupling measurement and modeling results show that transfer coefficients can be predicted accurately.

Coupled-inductor rectification and cycloconversion

APEC '88 Third Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, 1988
AC-to-DC rectifiers and polyphase AC-to-DC cycloconverters are derived from the basic DC-to-DC converters by the addition of negatively coupled inductors with a minimal number of switching devices. The circuits also use space and time-multiplexed magnetics to handle the multiple inputs and outputs.

Novel Coupled-Inductor Multi-phase VRs

APEC 07 - Twenty-Second Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, 2007
Coupling the output inductors of the multi-phase Buck can reduce the steady-state current ripple while maintaining the same transient response. The conduction losses in the switches can thus be reduced. Furthermore, using coupled inductor can greatly improve the dynamic performance with smaller inductance during the transient.
