We present a new class of methods for the global optimization of continuous variables based on simulated annealing (SA). The coupled SA (CSA) class is characterized by a set of parallel SA processes coupled by their acceptance probabilities. The coupling is performed by a term in the acceptance probability function, which is a function of the energies ...

Efficient Simulation via Coupling
Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences, 1996This paper is concerned with how coupling can be used to enhance the efficiency of a certain class of terminating simulations, in Markov process settings in which the stationary distribution is known. We are able to theoretically establish that our coupling-based estimator is often more efficient than the naive estimator.

Abstract The simulation of the dynamics of an entire vehicle requires the modeling of many components, which influence the overall system behavior. A detailed simulation model of the system dynamics of a vehicle shows the limits of available simulation tools, which are mainly specialized on certain physical disciplines, e.g.

Electro-thermal circuit simulation using simulator coupling
IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Systems, 1997The paper presents a methodology for simulating the static and dynamic performance of integrated circuits in the presence of electro-thermal interactions on the integrated circuit die. The technique is based on the coupling of a finite element method (FEM) program with a circuit simulator.

Electrical-thermal-structural coupling simulation for electrosurgery simulators
2011 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2011An electrosurgery is a fundamental operation that utilizes Joule heat generated by the passage of a radiofrequency current. Surgical simulators are demanded for training of the electrosurgical skill with fewer complications. However, foregoing simulators have never implemented a series of physics phenomena in electrosurgery. The aim of this study is to

NESS: A coupled simulation expert system
Proceedings of the ACM SIGART international symposium on Methodologies for intelligent systems, 1986This paper reports on work being conducted for NASA to develop a simulation expert system called NESS that can assist the user to run digital simulations of dynamic systems and interpret the output data to determine system characteristics. The paper describes our design principle, system architecture and knowledge base. Finally, in order to demonstrate

Coupled Electro-Thermal Simulation of MOSFETs
ASME 2009 InterPACK Conference, Volume 1, 2009Thermal transport in metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) due to electron-phonon scattering is simulated using phonon generation rates obtained from an electron Monte Carlo device simulation. The device simulation accounts for a full band description of both electrons and phonons considering 22 types of electron-phonon ...
