Aeroacoustical coupling and synchronization of organ pipes

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2016
A synchronization experiment on two mutual interacting organ pipes is compared with a theoretical model which takes into account the coupling mechanisms by the underlying first principles of fluid mechanics and aeroacoustics. The focus is on the Arnold-tongue, a mathematical object in the parameter space of detuning and coupling strength which ...

Coupling impedance of a hole in a coaxial beam pipe

Physical Review E, 1996
n this paper we derive the impedance of a circular hole in the inner tube of a coaxial beam pipe. The method used differs from the classic Bethe's diffraction theory, since, in the calculation of the magnetic and electric dipole moments, we take into account also the scattered fields in the aperture to match the power conservation law.

COUPLED FLOW IN POROUS-MATERIAL LINED PIPES

Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 1991
The slow motion of a fluid is studied in a duct of circular constant cross-section, whose internal wall is covered by a porous material permeable to the fluid, with an eye to the inlet phenomenon produced by arbitrary initial conditions at a given station. The coupled problem concerning the simultaneous Stokes flow in the central free region and Darcy

Coupled consolidation analysis of pipe–soil interactions

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2013
Current design practice for pipe–seabed interaction in soft soils is generally based on the assumption of undrained behaviour throughout laying and subsequent operation. In reality, drainage and consolidation around a partially embedded pipe can have a marked effect on the vertical penetration and horizontal breakout resistance. In this paper, a large-

On the Suppression of Coupled Liquid/Pipe Vibrations

1996
The vibration of liquid-filled pipe systems can be caused by internal (pressure surges) or external (rotating machinery) sources, or a combination of both. Liquid pulsations can be diminished by devices like an air chamber, whereas pipe vibrations can be reduced by suitable supports.

Lead Pipe Couplings

Journal AWWA, 1918
The object of this paper is to discuss the joints commonly used in service pipe connections and the development that has taken place from time to time under the guiding light of experience, for the purpose of improvement and prolonging the life of the service and its various appurtenances.

SYNCHRONIZATION OF HIGHER HARMONICS IN COUPLED ORGAN PIPES

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2007
We report results on the synchronization of two organ pipes positioned side by side. Special attention is put on the synchronization of the higher harmonics. As possible explanation, classical theory provides the amplitude death as explanation for the reduction to almost silence of two coupled organ pipes.
